Surreal was supposed to be 'taking it easy.' She couldn't figure out that there was any way she could truly do otherwise, since this place, despite being utterly backward in so many ways, didn't actually give her anything to do. It did, however, seem to be adequately supplied with reading material, which, although the same flavor as her usual selections back home, were different in detail. Very different.
She'd found suitable attire for an afternoon in the sun, however. So with that and an amusing book that had caught her attention, she settled down on a blanket to enjoy herself. There were several things that had attracted her to the book, a 'paperback' novel entitled Children of the Night. The fact that the main character was apparently a witch of some power was one, and the title another. By the third page, with the line "...like, forget about 'be fruitful and multiply.'" she was well and truly hooked.
Hooked enough than she had hardly noticed when her solitude was disrupted by someone coming near enough to cast a shadow over her pages. "Do you mind moving? You're in my light," she said, hardly even looking up to see who it was.
