Wednesday didn't believe in anyone else deciding her fate, particularly not someone with a wheel. It was unsettling even just sitting there unmanned in the corner of the room, with all of its bright colours and neat handwriting and clearly delineated tasks. If a person wasn't careful, they could be ruled by the wheel with no means of escape

"Like the most boring version of Wheel of Fortune, huh?" Asher said, eying the little girl and her materials. The OCD freak who owned it probably wouldn't approve of any modifications she had in mind. A responsible adult might have tried to stop her. "Here to fix that, I take it?"

"I'm doing an important service to the island," said Wednesday, eyeing him for a moment before turning back to her task. "Just like I promised to."

"By defacing someone else's property? Not gonna stop you, just curious." Because if he ever found himself needing to perform 'important services' for the island, it'd be useful to know he could just fuck shit up while keeping a promise.

"If I don't destroy it, the job wheel could enslave us all," said Wednesday, "and I refuse to be enslaved to a wheel."

Oooookay.

"I'm sure it only enslaves the weak ones. I'm betting you would have been safe, but it's nice that you care about the other islanders so much." God knows he doesn't.

"I'm safe because I've figured out how to defeat it," Wednesday pointed out. "Everyone else was content to do its bidding. If anything is going to enslave the people of the island, it's not going to be a construction paper wheel."

Asher mulled the though over in his head, wondered if it was really worth asking at all. If the construction paper wheel wasn't going to be responsible for enslaving them all, then what would? His money -- useless as it was here -- was all on the cats.

Failing that, though... "Are, uh, you planing to enslave us all?" Well with the wheel out for the count, who the fuck knew?!

"Not right now," said Wednesday. She had a lot going on that didn't involve the responsibility of having the whole island doing her bidding. "I'll want to finish school first."

"Priorities. Got'cha." Asher nodded sagely. Diabolical and learned; there was no denying it was indeed a lethal combination. "Smart girl." Dumb masses were a lot less likely to question a figure head when said figure head had their 'edumuhcation'. No one can be expected to live under the rule of someone who can't count to twenty unless they're barefoot.

Wednesday pulled another piece off the wheel and began to systematically destroy it. "But it's never too early to start making plans for the future."
