The Marquis de Carabas was, in some ways, a simple creature. But he was also, in most other ways, an extremely complicated one. He required only food, water, and sleep to sustain him physically, but mentally, he required a whole lot more than that. Simple card-tricks were for amateurs; he had always been meant for greater things, this much he knew.

A pity, in hindsight, that he'd not foreseen 'greater things' to be including a period of incarceration on a mysterious tropical island.

There was not a whole lot of work for the trickster here, and as such, had decided to take...a sabbatical. It was well within his right, and well earned, of course. However, the Marquis's idea of a holiday was decidedly different from a normal person's.

He was just returning from said holiday, in fact, walking down the path towards the Compound humming a cheery tune under his breath. He had something slung over his shoulder - something suspiciously long, scaly and leathery, something with horns on. This trailing end was the only part visible of the thing, however - the rest was wrapped in a brightly-colored floral bedsheet and stained in some places with dirt and...something darker. It was not an overly large bundle, but large enough to make one wonder what exactly was in it and how it had gotten there.

The story was an interesting one. There was no guarantee the Marquis would tell it to just anybody who asked, however.
