Jim was glad things went on without a hitch. He stood aside once it was all over, still clad in the friar robes that had been made for him, and just enjoyed the pleased feeling he had about getting through another play. Sure, it hadn't been a big part this time, but he still thought he - and everyone - did a good job.

"I have never known you to be so holy," Veronica said, mock-solemn as she slid up beside him the crowd. It took a moment, but then a wide grin broke through and she gave his arm a light punch. "Good job, Halpert." She bit her lip, a note of pride in her voice.

"Have we not talked about that time I was announced to be a saint back home?" he joked, his grin mirroring hers. "I'm glad to see you've decided to grace our simple play with your presence, Councilwoman."

Even Veronica wasn't above preening, just a little, at the reminder of her renewed position on the Council. She'd been doing so for weeks, though more quietly now. It was like she couldn't remember anymore why she'd declined so many time. "Well," she said, chin tilting up as she raised her eyebrow, "I figured that, as a representative of the people, it was best if I... stay involved. In our little community."

"Right. Make an appearance," he said, nodding to show he understood. "Well, the people appreciate you showing up. Did you like the play?"

"Loved it," Veronica said, grinning slyly. "Even if the lead characters never get less moronic. There was this really great priest in it, though, so that helped."

"You know, I was thinking the same thing," he agreed, and he couldn't help but feel a little proud of himself, even if he knew Veronica was more than a little biased. "He's going places, that one."

Really, it was strange how much he actually enjoyed acting now. It had started as something to do, but now it was a lot more than that.

"I'm almost sad to see it's over, though," he admitted. "Now I'll have to find stuff to do again when Sam isn't hitting me with things and trying to crawl to freedom."

"There'll be another play," Veronica said, shrugging. "There's always another one, and you'll get a big role in that and be all shiny and self-important again." As long as Geoffrey was on the island, anyway, there would be, and she couldn't imagine Geoffrey not being on the island anymore. "And Sam will be hitting you with things until the end of time, so I wouldn't hold my breath."

"A big role, huh?" he asked, grinning. "Sounds good to me. Well, I signed up to take some classes, too. So that should keep me busy for a while."

And then there was the beet farm. He didn't talk about that unless he had to.

Veronica bit back an amused grin, brow arching. "Classes, hm?" she asked brightly. "You're going to school, that's so sweet. What are you taking?" She'd cut back on her courses in the face of being on the Council, but it was always a surprise to see how much was actually available.

"Yes, adorable," he said, dryly. "I'm thinking of bringing bagged lunches so I really feel like I'm getting the school experience again."

He had only taken two classes, partially because of the fact he had a kid, and partially because he couldn't help but think he needed to ease into actually trying again.

"Writing and some Pop Culture class," he said, with an easy shrug, as if it wasn't a big deal. "You taking stuff this time?"

Veronica grinned, mirroring his shrug. "I'm in the Pop Culture course, too. Other than that, just French and fighting again."

Last semester had proved pretty fun, despite how bogged down she'd been, taking a zillion courses. The thing was, at least on the island, she liked all her teachers. It made it tempting to take more.

"Oh good, someone to cheat off of," he joked, grinning. To be honest, he was kind of relieved he'd know at least one person in one of his classes. "When in doubt, the answer is C. I still remember some of the tricks."

"Do you think we'll get put through the Eighties a second time?" Veronica asked wryly. "I barely had to endure them the first time, and I'd be happy to leave them there." They stirred up some weird memories, too.

"What, don't you want to learn about the magic that is parachute pants?" he joked, grinning. "As someone who lived through the whole thing, I have to say, we were some crazy, messed up kids."

"And that's what television is for," Veronica deadpanned. "I'd rather watch it than live it. Do we know who's teaching the class yet?"
