"I'm leaving. Anyone want to stop me?"
The crowd parts, black eyes and smirks… you're dead, bitch, and she files past them all, dagger at the ready, heels clicking on asphalt. This is the way the world ends, she thinks. But they had it all wrong, this is the way the world ends, with a bang, not a whimper, every last soul sucked into hell, and she'll be damned if she's going to watch them throw away their last chance. The last hope for humanity? What a joke.
This is the way the world ends, and Ruby steps off the sidewalk and into the abyss, falling… falling, falling, her time is up and they've finally called her back into hell.
The ocean swallows her whole. Closing around her, warm and quiet, rolling thick like afterbirth, sunlight a faint glow from above. Lightbeams from heaven, and Ruby laughs, salt water filling her lungs, weighted down by heavy, sodden leather and exhaustion. This is it, she thinks, watching the world darken around her, wondering if death -- real death, not this eternal purgatory - could really be so easy. Even the undead don't know what's on the other side… where do those souls go, the ones with no unfinished business? The ones who have no sins to punish. Ruby's sins are everlasting. Centuries of repenting, and she'll never clean her hands of the blood.
She breaks the surface, hacking, drawing in a ragged, chest-burning breaths, and blinks into the angry sun. The body she wears feels heavy, dragging her under, and she trudges her way onto shore, pushing another woman's blond hair from her face - this body she stole - and coughing up the sea as she goes.
This is the way the world ends, Ruby standing on the sand, dripping ocean and blood at her feet and scowling at the jungle stretching out before her.
"Well, this is just great."
[Little Angel, fallen from Hell. Open to all, just don't shoot her any place that doesn't grow back, this body's a keeper now.]
