"No, but I would look very charming and svelte if I were," Robin insisted with a very casual and smooth demeanour. "He means the drink kind of umbrellas. Marshall is sure that I envy his umbrella, for...god only knows what reason."
"Yeah, you would," Marshall said automatically, nodding approvingly over at Robin. Now, he may have been an engaged man, but he had eyes. Eyes that could see!
To the pink-haired girl, Marshall indicated the umbrella in his drink and grinned. "Isn't this awesome?"
Tonks' mouth twitched up into a smile. "It's very... awesome," she said. Not a word she used very often. It was one of those very American words that just sounded stupid in her accent. "I didn't even realize we had little umbrellas."
Robin just fluttered with happiness at Marshall's compliment. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he made it," Robin said, leaning over to tweak it as she gave Marshall a broad grin. "Your umbrella definitely looks good, if a little girly."
As a matter of fact, Marshall had made it. And it looked good. Damned good. "What's so girly about it? Would it be less girly if it had a gun motif or something?"
Looking to the other girl, he said, "Do you think it looks girly?" As he grinned expectantly up at her, Marshall realized that maybe introductions would be a good thing. "I'm Marshall and this is Robin. We're new. Ish."
"Well," Tonks said thoughtfully, "I'd say, there's nothing manlier than a man secure enough in his own, ah, manliness, to proudly display his little pink umbrella."
There, that seemed fairly diplomatic.
"Nice to meet you," she said. "I'm Tonks, and I'm... old. Well, as old a resident as people around here get, as far as I can figure out. Trust me, you lucked out as far as arrival times go."
"Lucked out. Why?" Robin asked suspiciously, not really trusting her luck so far these days. "I didn't hear any bells going off to tell us that we won any prizes or anything."
"That would have been awesome," Marshall lamented. "'Welcome to the island! You're our thousandth cast away!'" He could see it now: a rain of flower petals upon them, leis for everyone, and a huge, succulent pig roasting on a spit in celebration of the milestone.
"Umbrella envy?" She looked his companion over briefly. "Well, she's not wet."
