Nancy sat at the table in the kitchen, idly stirring her finger in a cup of cold coffee and staring into space. She felt like shit. And there wasn't really a specific reason for it - just one of those days, one of those weeks, maybe. She was bored and sick of this fucking island and she missed her kids and she missed Judah and she missed sex and ( Read more... )

Jack wandered in to grab a cup of his own and watched Nancy sit there for a few minutes. She was really lost in...whatever. He poured his coffee then walked over and sat down across from her and smiled.

"What's a pretty girl like you doing here all alone?" he said, trying purposefully to sound as cheesy as possible.

She offered him a smile and said, "Drinking cold coffee, apparently. What's up, Jack?"

"Nothing much. My coffee's hot, though," he grinned. "You want me to leave you alone, or do you mind some company?"

"Stay," she said. "But only if you get me some more coffee." She grinned at him and pushed her cup towards him.

"But I just sat down," he protested, then laughed and took her cup to dump, rinse and refill. "You take anything in it?"

"Lots of cream and lots of sugar," she said. "I know, I'm horrible." Strangely enough, she did feel a little better just for having the company. "How are you doing, Jack? I haven't seen you in a while." She tried to think of the last time. "I think I may have caught a glimpse of the back of your head at the ball a couple of weeks ago."

"I'm fine," he answered automatically. "I've been around, keeping busy. You saw me at the ball? I was outside for the majority of it. I just came in to get a couple drinks."

He flashed a smile as he sat her coffee in front of her and took his seat again. "Sorry I didn't get to dance with you."

Nancy snorted. "I didn't dance with anyone." She took a sip of her coffee. "I drank too much wine and practically got lost getting home. John found me wandering around outside, tripping over my dress." She felt her face go a little red just from the memory. How embarrassing.

"Oh, really? He get you to bed okay?" he asked, his smile and eyes asking much more than his words.

Nancy groaned and put her face in her hands. Then she finally looked up at Jack and said, "He walked me home. He was a perfect gentleman. I mean, perfect gentleman. He even undid about a million buttons on the back of my dress and barely grazed my skin. I came back out in a robe that barely hit my mid-thigh and he barely even glanced at my legs."

"Nancy, that's not a gentleman...are you sure he's straight?" He had the decency to clear his throat and look down at his coffee before she could uncover her eyes.

Nancy gave him a Look. "Jack, honestly. Did you meet the man? I don't think the gays would have him. Besides, I kissed him once. You have to like women to kiss one like that, as brief as it was."

"Yeah, I've met him and he's definitely not gay," he answered comfortably. "And I noticed he has, you know, eyes, so what's his problem? You're gorgeous."

Nancy sighed. "I don't know. I mean, he mentions in casual conversation that he thinks I'm attractive, he just doesn't seem to care. You know what, whatever." She shook her head and took another sip of her coffee. "I'd be an idiot to just sit around waiting for the man when he's obviously not interested. In the meantime, you know how long I've gone without sex? Jesus Christ. I mean, it's not as if I have a recently dead husband as an excuse this time."

Jack cleared his throat again before taking a sip of coffee. He'd never pretended like he didn't think she was attractive, but he knew that she wanted a relationship, not some...fling.

"You, um, want me to see if there's anyone else single and straight and over twenty one?"

Nancy snorted. "Well it's not as if you had much luck last time, is it? Maybe I should just change my approach. Hello, my name is Nancy. I may be older than some of the beautiful women here, but I'm also in my sexual prime. I have great legs. I'm not looking for a husband, I'm looking for a fuck. You don't even have to call me again since there aren't any phones. Interested?"
