Ever since the issue of Lara opting not to escape the island through some sort of portal, Bond had made himself fairly scarce and inaccessible when it came to islanders he did not know very well, which in his case meant virtually everyone on the island outside of Lara and Lyra ( Read more... )

A motorcycle. And this one wasn't attached to a potentially hostile teenager.

It wasn't that the human in apparent possession of the bike failed to appear potentially hostile. In fact, he looked like he could definitely pose a threat under certain circumstances. But the T-1000 wasn't currently partial to teenagers in general, making this human automatically preferable to one.

For a long moment, the T-1000 simply stood and watched from afar, assessing the situation and trying to find an optimal strategy for interaction. He didn't want to recycle his line, especially since it hadn't yielded positive results the last time he'd put it to use, and threats in general would probably be perceived negatively.

It left him very little to work with.

"Hi," he greeted as he approached the man. "What are the chances of you letting me ride your bike?"

Bond arched an eyebrow, considering the younger man. He was about 1.82 metres with blue eyes and brown hair. And he was fairly average-looking if well-muscled. The request surprised him and he made an effort to pause as if to actually consider it before frowning thoughtfully. "Might I ask why you wish to ride it?"

"Not for any specific purpose," the T-1000 replied, scanning the man with his gaze, then turning to offer the motorcycle a similar treatment. It looked fairly new, and he wondered how the human had acquired it. Maybe he'd arrived on the island riding the motorcycle, which would've made his arrival considerably smoother than the T-1000's had been. "I miss technology, and it's scarce here," he admitted bluntly, meeting the man's gaze. "And I just like bikes."

"I see," and James did, but he found it difficult to even consider letting anyone else use his bike the same way he would have found it impossible and painful to let another use one of his guns. "I'm afraid I can't really help you."

"That's too bad," the T-1000 responded coolly. He hadn't honestly expected cooperation - humans tended to be territorial and possessive of their toys. At least the response had been straightforward enough. He turned to curiosity instead of agitation. "Where did you get it?"

Bond disliked being rude, but he was fairly certain refusing was a better course than losing his motorcycle or letting anyone else use it. "Oddly enough, the island gave it to me," he murmured with a slight smirk. "It seems to be quite fond of giving people presents in January."

This was new. The T-1000 had never heard the island being accused of nice behavior. His brow rose for a moment. "I only arrived twenty-five days ago," he told the man with some regret. "And I can't really evaluate my chances of survival until next January."

James chuckled briefly and shook his head. "Unless you behave in a remarkably foolish fashion, I can think of no reason why you wouldn't last at least that long."

"Foolishness isn't the only parameter that helps get people killed," the T-1000 quirked his mouth in a half-smile, though there was little humor in it. It wasn't the most pleasant subject, as far as he was concerned. "I lasted three days in my former existence. So I don't tend to plan for the long-term."

"You're less likely to encounter as much violent or lethal conflicts than you might back home," Bond said with a small shrug. He did look like particularly pleased by that fact, but he would have been happier having more work to do.

"Less likely, yes. But I don't think I'm meant for prolonged nonviolent existence. I'm pretty sure it'll catch up with me eventually," the T-1000 didn't know whether that meant the possibility of John Connor's arrival or something else, but he knew he couldn't count on things staying peaceful. The status quo didn't particularly appeal to him, anyway.

From his words and subsequent expression, he deduced that the man wasn't unfamiliar with danger. Maybe there was a vague chance the human was actually more interesting than his bike. A very vague chance, though, since there were many humans on the island, and only a handful of motorcycles. "You encounter much violent or lethal conflict back home?"

Bond was of the opinion that few people were meant for a prolonged peaceful existence, but he kept that to himself.

"More than my fair share of conflicts," he wryly agreed. "I worked for the British government in MI6." Somehow James doubted that this man would have heard of him.

"Military Intelligence, Section 6," the T-1000 confirmed with a nod. He'd possessed all relevant information required to operate ideally in the late twentieth century, even though the British secret service had obviously ceased to exist after Judgment Day.

The man's blatant admission of his occupation implied that he'd already been recognized for what he was, and considered it redundant to attempt and conceal his identity. And since the island was largely occupied by fictional beings such as Han Solo from Star Wars, potentially Robocop, and the T-1000 himself... "You're not James Bond, are you?" he inquired with a raised eyebrow. He didn't expect him to be, but it was always good to make sure.

His eyes narrowed slightly before he offered up a casual shrug. "Yes, I am. Where is it that you are from?"

"Earth." He gave the man who was apparently James Bond a thorough look-over; definitely dangerous, then, though he was probably accustomed to having the element of surprise, and concealing his nature. The T-1000 could sympathize. "Los Angeles, 1995," he elaborated, "2029, before that." That was as comprehensive an overview as it got. "I'm Austin," he offered his hand, "the T-1000."

Ah, something relating to American television or a science fiction novel perhaps. Nothing Bond would have paid much attention to, really. He preferred reading, gambling and drinking, or, occasionally, he would indulge in programming on BBC One.

"I see," he murmured although really he did see. "Well, I am from the year 2007."
