For them, love is about a fat little baby and a quiver full of heart-tipped arrows, shooting people with the implicit feeling that love is supposed to hurt for all that it's reported to feel good. "... And you do gymnastics? Is there any talent you don't have?" Ace shook her head, her hands on her hips as she watched Jamie - first doing a handstand, then flipping to his feet. "I'd be lucky not to fall on my head, to b..."

And then she trailed off.

And was staring. There was.... there was a tattoo.

"Jamie?"

"Cooking, remember?" Jamie replied with an easy smile before he noticed where it was she was looking. The smile faded fast. "Yes?"

"You're not that bad of a cook," Ace said quietly, her voice... strained, just slightly.

"Cosmetic decision, or the island?"

He... it was pretty rare to just see the smile fade from Jamie's face. Usually, it was either there and it stayed, or it was completely absent.

"The latter," said Jamie with a small, sarcastic smile. "Trust me, if this had been optional I would've gone for a place that wasn't, say, my eye."

Ace's brows knit, and she forced herself not to touch it - well, reach out to touch it, since he probably wouldn't let her. "It doesn't hurt, does it?" She sounded... soft, almost, which was... odd.

To say the least. Like she was concerned. Really, really concerned.

"It did at the time," he explained, not unkindly. "I woke up with it. If it's the same one that I'm to get back home, it's written on my DNA." Beat. "Don't ask me how that works because I honestly don't know."

Ace shook her head. "Wasn't going to ask." She had some ideas, something about pigmentation, and things. But... "You alright?" She half lifted her hand, and then closed it, letting it drop back to her side. "I kind of want to touch you, but I don't really know if-"

She squinched her eyes. "If that's the kind of thing you're in the mood for."

"I'm fine now," Jamie said. Sort of. "It's over a month old." He shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets, just for something to do. He hadn't seen Ace in a while which meant she likely didn't know about Tony, unless she had heard it from someone else. Still, he saw no harm in what she was asking so he shrugged again and leaned forward slightly. "Go ahead."

Her fingers skimmed it featherlight, tentative in a way that Ace just... wasn't.

A month.

She hadn't seen him for a month.

"I thought I was busy, but... I didn't realise it'd been that long."
