Saturday Evening Meal Post

Five whole days.

Five whole days had passed since Isabel somehow (miraculously?) recovered from dengue fever. On Saturday, when she had begun vomiting blood and bleeding out her eyes and ears, she had resigned herself to her fate: she would die on this island, die without getting a chance to say goodbye to her family and friends at home, die and make Vorenus live through another terrible death and leave Pullo to pick up the pieces again.

But this whole island worked in mysterious ways. On Monday Isabel was sure she wouldn't live to see Tuesday. She'd even heard someone (she had been too weak to tell if it had been another patient or a doctor) voice the same opinion as people wandered in and out of the room where she and some others had been held. Come Tuesday, though.... She'd woken up feeling better than she had in a very long time. No fever, no rash, no bleeding, no weakness, no joint pain. Nothing. After getting a clean bill of health, Isabel had slowly walked back down to her hut, the doctors having warned her not to overdue it and to stay rested.

Enough time had passed and Isabel wanted to be around people again. Besides, it was her day in the kitchen, so come Saturday afternoon she hiked back up to the compound, a bandanna covering two braids. Isabel had learned her lesson the last time; it got hot in the kitchen. With her hair back and her health returned, she was ready to cook, Crashdown style again.

Though Isabel did take caution not to overdue herself, in the end she was proud of her spread, which she had put labels on again once everything was displayed on the counter and ready for eating:

*Beam-me-up Burger (made out of boar's meat and topped with spinach, avocado, eggplant, and a coconut-pineapple glaze)
*Will Smith Burger (made out of boar's meat and topped with onions, tomato, and lettuce)
*Takeoff Tacos
*Saturn Rings (onion rings)
*Spaced Toss Salad
*Blood-of-alien smoothie (banana and strawberry)
*Men in Blackberry pie (which she'd made again as the last time it'd been such a big hit)

Tea, coffee, and juice had also been set out. All in all, in Isabel's opinion it looked pretty damned appetizing.
