Book had known about the chapel for a while, and hadn't quite gotten over to it just yet. He was a nomadic shepherd, a man who tended to a flock that lived in the black. He went from the abbey to the black, and his flock, as it were, was a ragtag group of criminals that held to their own rules and morals. Where these eight people, alone in the ( Read more... )

Sometimes I just let my feet go and the rest of me follows until we reach the place where we're going to be. I don't always know where this is, and I tend to count steps, count rocks along the way and think of a lot really dumb things, and it's not sad or stupid or anything pathetic. I just like it. I just do things like that; I'm not a big adventure type.

It's why when I walk into the church, I hadn't been thinking that I was going to run into people, because I hadn't been thinking where I was going to go at all. I was even more surprised to see someone there at all.

"Oh, I didn't think there'd be somewhere here," I say, only to frown after the words come out. Kind of dumb once I think about it.

Now if that doesn't make me feel guilty, I don't know what does. I half through up my hands and shake my head.

"Oh--no, don't leave because I'm an airhead. I was just...wandering."

Book grinned. "Not at all!" He chuckled a little, smiling. "Sometimes folk just look for solitude, is all." He shrugged. "And wandering leads you wherever your feet go, I know that much."

"I think it'd be dangerous if I was alone any longer," I say, gesturing off-handed towards my head. I don't have to say it, but I can sure as all get out imply it.

I look around and smile slightly. "What does that about my feet that they wanted to be in a Church?"
