House had been in pretty good spirits, generally. After all, he got to diagnose malaria and treat it with wormwood, how cool is that? Of course, all that was before he woke up this morning with some distinct discomfort. The sort of discomfort that had caused him to wince and pull down the sheets and snap up the waistband of his boxers to have a ( Read more... )

The only thing Logan could figure was that he'd done something really wrong recently, and this was all part of some massive karmic payback. Covering his eyes with one hand, he turned away as he waited for House to pull his damn pants back up.

"Do you ever wear clothes?" he asked, "This is like the second time I've seen you like this. Either you're trying to tell me something, or the catholic church is right and God really is punishing me for sleeping with men."

All he'd wanted was for someone to look at his damn leg, it seemed unfair that it had ended with an old-man peep show.

"Oh, fuck off," said House, though there was almost an edge of cheerfulness to it. After all, the itching was gone for the time being.

Logan frowned slightly, peeking through his fingers to see if the other man was dressed yet. "You finished, or should I just come back later when you're done having a little 'you' time?" he asked, leaning heavily on his crutch.

"I don't need me time, I'm already into two-man sports," House pointed out, zipping his pants. "Now what do you want?"

"I dunno, when you break things aren't you supposed to get them checked now and then?" Logan asked, hopping a little further into the room now that House was dressed. "It's been hurting less or whatever, I thought maybe it might be time to take off the cast."

Though Logan knew that was unlikely. It hadn't been that long since he'd had it put on. And honestly... he just wasn't that lucky.

"Let's do a little math problem," said House. "Now. How many weeks did I say you'd need to keep your cast on, at the very least?"

He held up six fingers as a hint.

"It's been, like, forever," Logan insisted. "Like an eternity or something, man."

He sighed a bit and frowned. "Besides, don't you need to check that it's setting right or whatever? It's not like you have an x-ray machine... so that would mean taking the cast off, right? Putting on a new one."

Which, really, brought them to Logan's actual concern. Washing his leg. It was a stupid thing to be hung up on, but really, he was a fairly easy going guy, was it so wrong to be a little hung up on hygiene?

"It's been this many," House said, and held up four fingers. "And four is less than six. Two less than six. And that is what we call arithmetic."

He gestured to the table. "You're just getting sick of the smell, aren't you. Fine, I'll put on a new cast. Hop up."

Logan was a little surprised that it had been that easy, and he was more than a bit suspicious as he pulled himself up onto the table. House didn't exactly have a history of being nice... there had to be a catch.

"Seriously?" he asked, eying the other man with obvious distrust.

House snorted. "Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to get your pants off."

Truth was, Logan was right, he really should check to make sure that it had been healing straight.

"...I think I just threw up a little in my mouth," Logan replied flatly.

"You should be careful with that. All sorts of germs in vomit." House limped over to the cabinet and started gathering up the supplies for setting a new cast.

"Gross," Logan snorted, looking down at his cast. It was getting dingy fast, and even Joe and Duck's doodles didn't seem to brighten it up.

It was going to be a painfully slow process if they spent the whole time tossing banter around though, and Logan made an awkward attempt as actual conversation as he watched House gather what he needed.

"So, uh, how's stuff?" he asked. "Like, at home or whatever."

Which didn't seem like a strange thing to ask to Logan, seeing as how the last time he'd had a run in with Jack the other man had been surprisingly open about his home life. He realized belatedly that it might seem a bit out of the blue to House though, and he frowned a little to himself. He really needed to work on his small talk skills.

House lifted an eyebrow. He hadn't really taken Logan for the type for small talk.

He had to use a handsaw to get through the shell of the cast, so as he started to saw, he said, "Swell. I've been thinking of getting a white picket fence."

If Logan had any common sense, he wouldn't have taken the conversation in the direction that he did while House had a saw in his hand.

"I kind of meant, you know, like with your boyfriend," he replied. "Just 'cause last time I talked to Jack, which was like a whole month ago, he was kinda..."

Violent? Angry? Bitchy?

"Not himself or whatever."

Though it hadn't been a conversation so much as it had been a fist fight and a few stoned snippets of confession. There was a small amount of concern in his voice though, if only because Logan was secretly a much nicer person than he appeared.

"Jack's been having a hard time lately," said House. "But for once, it has nothing to do with me." He finished sawing through the hard part of the cast and broke it open.
