House had been in pretty good spirits, generally. After all, he got to diagnose malaria and treat it with wormwood, how cool is that? Of course, all that was before he woke up this morning with some distinct discomfort. The sort of discomfort that had caused him to wince and pull down the sheets and snap up the waistband of his boxers to have a ( Read more... )

"Cabinet, bag..." Dani Reese wandered into the clinic intent upon finding her purse (and clothes) which she knew were in some cabinet somewhere because she'd seen them and there was a bottle a really fucking good wh-- She came in just as House pulled his boxers up. "Whoa, way too early in the morning for that. I haven't even had my coffee yet."

She eyed House for a long moment.

Whiskey. Purse. Clothes. Cabinet. Reese shook her head and started moving again, rummaging about in various cabinets before she found what she was looking for. Purse!

Actually, whiskey. And clothes.

Great. Some guy with his pants on the floor. That was all she needed this morning.

"I hope that's not habitual," she muttered.

House rolled his eyes as he yanked up his jeans. But it was hard for him to be too cross when the itching had finally stopped. "Can I help you?"

"Found what I was after," Reese said, studying him for a moment. "Unless you want to take a look at a healing gunshot wound or prod my stitches, I'm pretty sure coffee's my next stop. You want a cup, Mr. Sarcastic? Might help keep your jeans up."

"Only if you're sure you don't want to poke around my clinic supplies uninvited anymore," House said dryly.

"It was my shit," Reese said pointedly, eyebrows raised. "Now that I have it, I highly doubt I'll be poking around anywhere near here again. Ever, if I can help it."

"Excellent," said House. "Enjoy your coffee, then." He grabbed his cane and limped back over to the cabinet to replace the nanobots.

"I'm sure I will," she replied. "Coffee offer still stands if you want it." Reese limped in the other direction, determinedly attempting to be cheerful. She had her whiskey, her shirt, her stuff and other than seeing a cane toting grump with his pants down, the morning hadn't been a disaster.

She thought about offering her name then decided that since he hadn't neither would she.

House shrugged as he closed the cabinet and grabbed a file out of the stack on the counter. "If you want to play coffee girl and fetch me some, I'm not going to stop you."

"I haven't been coffee girl since my days at the Academy, but I'm fairly certain I can grab you a cup of coffee if you'll trade me a few Tylenol and maybe something to stop these damned stitches from driving me crazy. I want to just pick them out." Reeese meant it, too. They were driving her mad, damned stitches.

Honestly, she didn't mind getting a second cup of coffee, not today. Maybe tomorrow she'd mind.

House lifted an eyebrow and said, "...sure." He grabbed some fresh gauze out of the cabinet while he waited for her.

"Nice cane," Reese offered and then limped down the hallway to fix the coffee. if he didn't like how she fixed it, too damned bad. He'd get cream and sugar whether he liked it or not because that's what she was having and she didn't feel like asking or juggling shit with cream and sugar in it. It took her longer than she would have liked, but she came back with two steaming mugs and a face full of grimace.

"You coffee, Doctor..." She trailed off expectantly and set the mug down next to one of the exam tables before carefully working her way up onto it.

House did not like cream in his coffee, but he was feeling fairly magnanimous since the nanos had worked, so he said nothing. "You need one yourself?" he asked, noting her limp. "Though no one has one as cool as mine." Sometimes he thought that the snakehead cane with a little ridiculous, but it did make him feel like quite the pimp.

"Clearly no one will ever possess that particular level of coolness in a cane." Reese frowned a bit and took a sip of coffee. "And no. I don't want a goddamned cane. If I can make a decent effort of jogging on this thing, I'm pretty sure I can cope with a limp." No matter how uncomfortable it was!

House shrugged. "Count your blessings." He took a sip of coffee, and tried not to consider that he kind of sounded like his father: At least you still have both legs!

"At least I didn't get shot in the face," Reese said pleasantly. "Do I get to call you Doctor Sarcastic, or is there something else you go by?" She had a lister of alternatives already and set her coffee down as stitches had decided to remind her just how annoying they could be. Thankfully, she decided on wearing the loose wide legged pinstriped pants, so getting at the stitches was less hassle than it usually was. Thankfully, the bullet hadn't been too deep so she was left with about five stitches to close the extraction site. There was still swelling (and an area of redness that was warmer than the rest of her skin), most likely aggravated by her consistent use of the damned leg, but the stitches held...and itched.

Reese just didn't really feel like sitting still long enough to heal as fast as she could.

"House," he said. "So what about your stitches?"
