Scout was gone, leaving Ray with a second empty hut behind his cabin. He hadn't stuck around home for long, too pissed off and sad to want to talk to anybody, do anything. So he just walked, thinking about Scout and Christopher Robin, and how they'd never really been his kids, they hadn't stayed in his hut, they hadn't called him dad, but all the same he felt like they had been. He loved them like he'd love his own kids, and took care of them as much as he could. And now both of them were gone.
Ray thought he had some pretty decent luck as far as island living went. He had a husband, he'd lost a partner only to get him back, he'd lost a best friend only to get him back, too. But with the kids it was different. He missed Christopher Robin and would miss Scout, already was, but he didn't exactly want them to come back. Kids shouldn't be stuck on the island without their folks (Samara, of course, didn't count), and he just hoped that Christopher Robin and Scout had gone home.
All that walking left Ray at the Compound, and he thought maybe if he found Scout's book and read about what she might be up to in Alabama it'd make him feel a little better about losing her. He scanned the books on the shelf, most of them reading To Kill A Mockingbird. And the bookshelf probably thought it was being a dick, flaunting the book at him, but he took it anyway. He sat down on the couch, put his glasses on, and began to read.
