Cecily could not help but feel that her sense of adventure was dwindling as her time on the island grew. She did not like to think herself as someone quite as drab as either Ms. Prism or Lady Bracknell, but there were days where she felt there was just nothing else to do but something from home, like play the piano... which is exactly what she found herself doing in the middle of the rec room. Recently she had heard of many people catching ill, and she wished to stay as far away from the strangeness of the island as possible, which was odd, for when she first arrived she wanted to do nothing but explore. Now that the island had changed again, she had considered exploring, and had set out many times for her to do so, but when the times came around, Cecily felt as though she did not have the energy, and most of all she did not have the company.
The island had spoiled her with many people, and now many of them had fallen ill, or may be contagious and not have the slightest idea, so she would find herself quite alone in her endeavours. Miss Prism had always said that playing an instrument was essential to be a well-bred and accomplished young lady. Now she felt quite proud at herself for practising. She played on, A flat, C natural, lonely but contented. Without adventure, Cecily found that she was often content, but rarely very happy.
