While he was perfectly willing to deal with and aid in Lara's besting Indiana Jones at tomb raiding, Bond had no less of a desire or interest in exploring the temples to as great an extent as she did. He preferred missions that involved the disposing of living threats and real bad people. Unless there was something else involved in clearly stealing from dead people besides dusting off old potentially cursed relics, he was pretty content in keeping to the jungle or to other locations on the island.
For that reason along with the fact that the heat was getting to him and his cave lacked air conditioning, James was content to enjoy the comforts of the rec room. He wasn't in the mood for a book of any real substance or an outdated newspaper, so he'd brought his guns with him to clean them. They hadn't been put to any real use in quite some time, but if he did eventually have to go on a treasure hunt, having his weapons in proper working order would be of a great benefit to him.
He also hoped that, in spite of the fact that his Hechler & Koch UMP9 was currently disassembled, the mere fact that he had multiple guns at his disposal would discourage others from irritating him, but in all honesty, he rather doubted it.
