Wednesday and Peter's career in piracy had not gotten off to the best start.
Getting the Dawn Treader away from the dock had proven to be a fairly straightforward task once they found their way around. It was what came after that was trickier.
The sun was up now and they hadn't managed to get very far. The problem, as far as Wednesday could tell, was that the sails were sagging and they didn't really know how to steer. She'd tied the sails well, but apparently they hadn't tied them right.
"We're close to land," she said, not telling Peter anything he didn't already know.
"I see that." Peter was a bit tangled in the ropes for the sails now, trying to figure out just which went where and how to get the ship to actually go anywhere. Sailing, it should come as no surprise, is quite a bit easier when you have pixie dust and dreams to help the ship along. "I wish this boat were one of the ones with lots of oars in it, then we could get people to help."
"This one goes faster," said Wednesday. At least, in principle this one went faster. In practice this one had done little more than drift a little up the coast of the island and almost get mired in a sandbar. "The island is stealing all of our wind."
"Cause it doesn't want us to leave," Peter said confidently, because it was a much more satisfying explanation than simply bad sailing. "Not that we're going to really leave, but it doesn't know that."
"The island knows these kinds of things," said Wednesday ominously. The explanation made a lot of sense to her as well. She stood at the edge of the ship and out at the land that was all to close, though still on the other side of an expanse of water. "Maybe there'll be something to pillage nearby. We're going to have to pirate from here."
He nodded and stopped tugging on the rope for a moment to look out toward the beach. There didn't seem to be much to pillage from this side, but maybe in the jungle there was lots more to get at. "Alright. You want to do it now or should we try sailing some more?"
"We should try to get closer to the jungle," Wednesday decided, but she got her sword out anyway. A pirate always needed to be ready, and now that it was light out they might see something to pillage at any time.
[ ooc: set to early Sunday morning. come stare at the spectacle! bring your friends! help Caspian and his crew retake the ship! or if you're really obnoxious, help Captain Pan and Captain Addams (they couldn't agree) in their first foray into piracy.
