Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel?

Bob liked food, but he always had that. He also liked playing. He knew the others couldn't fly like he could, and that was sad, but Bart would come up with games they could play. This one was really fun, too. Bart had made wooden dowels, sanded smooth so that they didn't cause splinters, and would throw them. The only problem was he seemed to ( Read more... )

Tony did have food. He had a half eaten apple in his hand, a towel over his shoulder, and he was heading for the beach. What he didn't expect was a massive disease ridden rat with wings to come swooping at him.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!" Tony ducked, waving his empty hand over his head, "Get it AWAY!"

Oooh, an apple. Bob spread his wings to slow down as he dove, but then the man started making loud noises and waving his hands. He was one of those, how disappointing. Pulling up, he passed over his head to catch a low-flying branch in his thumbs, flipping to hang upside down facing him, wide eyes focused intently on the food.

Bob cocked his head to one side and made a chattering noise, one that always worked on Jill. And just about everyone else, too.

Tony wasn't just about everyone else. He was someone who'd caught the plague and almost died from it. Sure, from white powder in an envelope, but this... This was a rat with wings. They had diseases, he knew it.

Tony fell back on his ass, scrabbling away from the thing. "Get away. Shoo!"

And just like that, Bob pounced. The apple, not the man. He really liked apples. After taking a couple bites he looked up, rather comically since bats can't really stand, and he had the apple in one foot.

He made a low hoot, trying to figure out what the man was up to, then took a careful step closer. Moving on the ground was hard.

Damn..... The thing was not supposed to be this closed. Tony whimpered, moving back, pulling the hand it had scratched him to get the apple tight against his chest.

He could feel himself getting hot already. He was going to die from bat disease. He knew it.

Uh-oh. That wasn't a happy noise. Bob made a crooning sound, tilting his head first to one side, then another. It might have looked comical, but the man wasn't happy. Bob felt bad, but then he remembered the apple, and returned wholeheartedly to eating.

Okay the thing was eating. Maybe he could escape, except... No, that would mean that someone else could get attacked by the thing. Tony did the brave thing, flinging his towel over the bat.

That was not nice. He clawed at the towel, shreiking in insult. Bob skittered back, dropping the apple and pulling the offending bit of cloth with him. In a few more steps, he spread his wings, taking off, the towel streaming behind him like a banner.

"Dammit," Tony watched the thing fly off. Then he realised he was in the dirt of the path, looking like an idiot. And that he'd been bitten by a bat. A bat likely rife with disease. He needed to get to the clinic.
