Tosh had spent days preparing for this. Days trying to not think of family at home, rather all that she had here and should be glad for. In the end it had worked, and she and Owen stood smiling at the edge of the pool, Jackson cradled in her arms, gazing out at everyone who'd come ( Read more... )

It had been a lovely ceremony. Jessica smiled as she glanced at the other people waiting to give their well wishes. Moments like these were probably the most reassuring of human experience.

She was in no hurry, and in fact was finding herself quite content to mix with the crowd as she waited for her own opportunity.

"Jessica," Tosh smiled when she saw the other woman, now more obviously pregnant. "I'm glad you came."

"And I'm honored to be invited. Congratulations." She smiled glancing at mother and child. "You are attempting to get plenty of rest?" With a newborn it was more easily said than done.

"Trying to." It was hard. Harder than she'd expected. "I have good friends, it makes it a bit easier."

"It will get easier, but for the first few months take naps whenever you can." It seemed like simple advice, but you had to find sleep when you could.

She smiled. "Having people you can depend on always helps." She had been taught not to trust easily, but once she had she found herself well rewarded.

"It's always easier with people around," Tosh agreed, "And I think naps have become my favourite thing. I never thought I'd say that."

She grinned. "It's sort of a necessity, but that phase will pass pretty quickly." Or at least it would seem to.

"What supplies do you have?" She was beginning to think of that herself and couldn't help but wonder how it would work here.

"I hope. I always feel so old when I want to sleep in the middle of the day," she admitted, smiling.

"Most everything that we need. The island was good to us." For which was very grateful.

She laughed softly. "Yes, it does take some getting used to." Your whole schedule was often changed completely so you never knew when you would find time to sleep.

"That is good to hear. I received something from the Island as well." She was relatively certain the Island was responsible. "A lovely crib I found several weeks ago."

"If there's anything we have that you could use..." Tosh was sure that was how you did things, you passed them along when you were done.

"Thanks you, that would be wonderful." She would rather be prepared since she knew it would be difficult when her daughter was new born. "I am getting ready to put in a request for some furniture." It wasn't much, but it would reassure her at least that she was taking care of something.

"It's funny, all the little things you need that you would never think about at home," Tosh offered, even though she knew little of Jessica's home. "We've built our own community here though, it's good to help each other."

"It is amazing to see how much has been accomplished." Especially with so many different types of people. Somehow they managed to come together and make it work.

"I don't believe it sometimes. It's been over a year and at times it seems unreal," she wasn't sure why, but Jessica was comforting to talk to.

"It only proves what humans can do when they work together." And while she was certain it had been difficult from what she had seen things ran quite smoothly all things considered.
