Friends don't let friends...

It all went downhill from there...George may be tiny, but one thing I learned after about... ten minutes of being her friend, is that you don't piss her off unless you're prepared to get the shit kicked out of you... Or at least prepared to listen to her bitching for the next three days. I think I might be bleeding. I think her fingernail might've ( Read more... )

Daisy saunters in, not very disturbed by all the screaming and she's had to spend double the time working to make herself look presentable today. Bags under the eyes are truly unseemly. "Georgia," she drawls lightly. "You know, it's not very attractive to be screaming bloody murder, especially when there's no murdering to be found."

Then she takes a look. "Oh, my stars, never mind. That is a reason to scream."

"It's not that bad," I insisted, and I've at least got the self-preservation to step back holding my hands up in surrender, and hey, I've got a weapon if I need it. "Really, it's..."

And yeah, I'm snickering too, turning to look at Daisy and flashing her a smile that's probably not nearly as sheepish as it should be.

"...how bad is not that bad!" One of my hands shot up to pat frantically at the back of my head, the other clutching my mug and almost spilling it all over the place.

There was a hole in my hair.

Okay, so maybe I should have asked Daisy to do this instead but (and yes, there was always a but where she was concerned) I was already running low on pride as it was. I mean, I just thought it'd be nice to have a little left to my name, that's all, and now because of that I was going to be all lopsided. "Jesus, Neil, you almost scalped me!"

Daisy's fingers are by her lips, appraising the situation as if studying a piece of fine art, very severe and thoughtful at once. "Mm, yeah," she concurs. "That is most definitely a very poor distribution of hair," she assesses. "I'm sure we can find you hats, honey."

"Jesus Christ, you sound like you're trying to fucking kill her," Joe announced when he poked his head into the room and saw Neil there with George. And some scissors. And there was a hell of a lot of hair in the sink and a lot less on George's head.

"Why're you cutting her hair?" he asked and then turned his gaze to George. "And why're you trusting him to do it?" He wouldn't trust Neil with scissors anywhere near his damn head.

"You, shut the fuck up," I say, waving the scissors in his direction at the same time that I take a step back away from her, hand held up to keep her at a safe distance.

"What the fuck, it's not even that bad."

"Because I'm a dumbass, that's why. Clearly," I growled, hand batting around at the back of my head just to see how bad the damage was.

My coffee was about two seconds away from spilling too, and if that happened I was going to scream the whole compound down. "Neil, I swear to hell..."

"No fucking kidding," Joe agreed, coming into the bathroom to appraise what Neil had done, his eyebrows lifted in faint amusement. "Who the hell's idea what this, man?" Seemed kind of weird for Neil to just offer to cut her hair, but George didn't seem like she'd suggested it either.

And it really wasn't that bad, but he wasn't about to let that on.

Mack, being her father's daughter, crawled towards the screaming, and Eostre didn't notice until she was most of the way down the corridor towards the bathroom.

Eostre had to run to catch up, and she was flushed, with Mack on her hip when she shouldered open the door to see what on earth was going on.

"Excuse me?"

"You lose one, Eostre?" I ask, like nothing's wrong. Like George isn't screeching and pawing at her head. Like I don't have scissors and a clump of hair in my hand. Wide-eyed and innocent and slowly inching back away from George, half ready to make a break for it.

"Motherfu--"

Yeah, I went silent fairly quickly once I realized who that tone of voice belonged to. My rounded, scandalized mouth fell limply shut and my eyebrows went up and I just sort of stared at her through the mirror. It wasn't so much the tone that did it but the sight of a tiny blond mother looking extremely harried.

Because I'd heard all about her temper and didn't feel like getting assaulted for bad language. "I didn't say anything..."

"Flora is in the kitchen," said Eostre, sharply, one eyebrow very firmly raised, and Mack wide eyed and staring on her hip, "And is there a reason why everyone's screaming? It sounds like a bloody zoo in here."

At the sound of screaming, Peter ran eagerly toward the noise, for anything and everything will get a boy out of doing his homework. He got his dagger out too, ready to swoop in and save the day, only to skid to a stop when he saw it was just Neil.

I'm already backing up, hands raised to protect myself, when Peter slides in, knife drawn, ready to save the fair fucking maiden or whatever the hell he thinks he's doing.

"Jesus... Kid, you gotta stop pulling your fucking knife on me, what's the matter with you?"

My scream died down to this sort of low, dying sound born entirely from this mild surprise and this faint suspicion that, if confirmed, would have me equal parts awed and hysterical with crazy laughter.

My hero. "Wait, you're not actually to stand there and listen to Evil tell you he's not evil, are you? Stab away."

"It's not my fault you're always doing fishy things," Peter said rather teasingly, but he did indeed put his dagger away.

He crossed his fingers and looked between them, for it was clear it had fallen to him to solve their argument. "What'd you do to make her scream like that, Neil? You shouldn't make girls do that, you know."

I was still getting used to having a place of my own. Everything was happening so quickly that this was the first day I'd had that things seemed calm enough for me to explore.

Of course when I heard the scream I wasn't sure what to expect. I just stood there taking in the scene which consisted of Neil holding scissors and a girl I didn't know whose hair it sort of seemed had lost a battle with the scissors. "Hi." I said from the doorway.

I've got a hand up to fend her off and the scissors held at my side, wobbling somewhere between fearing for my life and bursting out laughing. It's a tough choice.

Then there's Brian, looking skittish and uncertain, and maybe he is following me around like a puppy or maybe I've just been listening to Logan for too long.

"Come on, man. Shut the door. We're gonna wake up the whole fucking island." It's still early. I sure as shit know I wish I was was still asleep.

"I don't care if Mr. fucking... Squidpersonthing wakes up, if you don't fix whatever you've done I swear to God, Neil, it won't-- who the hell are you?"

It's just that he came out of fucking nowhere. Bad timing. My knuckles were still white and flying, but I didn't mean to catch the guy in the crossfire.

I quickly shut the door. "I'm Brian." I gave sort of an uncertain grin. "It doesn't look that bad." It would maybe have to be cut really short, but I hoped that it could be easily fixed.
