It was the weirdest damn thing.
Becky had never ever paid attention to it before, and for whatever reason, she'd never had to pay attention to it. Nobody asked until now and for some reason, she'd never expected them to ask, even when they were her boyfriend.
But then Dr. Cameron had, real offhand-like, because she was asking about when they could call her Doctor. Doctor what?
And it was about that time that Becky realized she didn't know. For some goddamn reason, Becky didn't know what her last name was.
She didn't even know if she had one. It gave her a real dizzy feeling, and she had to sit down on the couch. She thought about everyone she knew-- yeah, Old Town girls didn't use them much, but she couldn't even remember what her mom's was.
Becky rubbed her temples in little circles. If she just thought about it hard enough, maybe she'd figure it out.
