It was hard to believe he was coming up on his second year on the island, and even harder to believe how quickly Sam was growing. Despite his initial worries when she was first born, Jim had found himself settling into the life of being a father, and even changing her diaper now was second nature to him. She made it hard not to enjoy the task, because even after keeping him up all night, she found ways to make it not seem so bad with just a single smile. There was no doubt she had him permanently wrapped around his finger, and he didn't mind it at all.

Pam had handed her off to him an hour or so ago. He wandered a bit aimlessly with her at first, but he soon decided on what they would be doing to pass the time together. The sun was warm, but not too hot - a perfect sort of day to spend at the beach.

"Now, Sam, this is very important," he told his daughter, in a solemn tone. She was sitting up next to him, one hand gripping her stuffed squirrel. She had only just started being able to hold herself up for a longer amount of time, and even now she was still a bit wobbly. "By the time I'm done with you, you'll be a sand castle making expert."

He started to fill up one of the cups with the wetter sand, making sure it was in view of Sam who was only half paying attention. A seagull flew above, and its shadow kept distracting her. "See, you fill the cups up like so...do you want to try?"

Sam obviously had no idea what he was saying, but that didn't keep Jim from asking her anyway. He took her little hand gently and led it to touch the ground, and he smiled when he saw her fingers curl into the sand, then babbled happily and slapped at it. She moved around so much she ended up losing her balance and falling over, and Jim had to bite back a laugh as he helped her sit up again.

"Maybe Daddy should do this for now and you watch," he mused, and moving to make the first 'tower' of the castle. "How's that sound?"

He took the babbling she did, muffled as it was as the paw of her stuffed animal had found its way back into her mouth, as a yes.

[OOC: Pretty awesome time to meet the two of them. I know this is a late post, and LT/ST is very welcome.]
