Island life was considerably quieter than what Bond had grown accustomed to back in Britain. As a result, he spent a considerable amount of time watching movies and reading books that helped to occupy his mind and time when shooting at wild game, drinking martinis from the liquor cabinet he'd received in January or cleaning out his small collection of guns did not suffice.
The only difficult part of watching films was that the 'rec room' offered little to no real privacy and being a fairly private person, he found it tedious to try to sit through a movie with other people filtering in and out of the room. Or occasionally sitting down next to him and talking through the entire climax, which was completely obnoxious. He never said much of anything to these people, determining that such a move would be pointless when all he wanted was silence and saying anything would simply generate unnecessary conflicts that couldn't be solved with a punch to the face or a gun to the temple.
During such moments of extreme vexation, he simply sat there, becoming increasingly sullen as the seconds ticked by, grinding his teeth together as he silently damned the American --for it was usually an American-- to the deepest, darkest bowels of Hell.
In spite, or perhaps because, of these interruptions, James Bond was determined to watch The Protector with the subtitles on and without any distractions. Particularly without having to contend with someone with a bowl of nuts or other noisy snacks. Without anyone deciding that now would be a brilliant time to talk to him about Ian Fleming or Sean Connery.
Of course, James was not the sort of man who relied upon a wish and a prayer. He was a man of action and therefore had sought out a solution, one that he hoped would prove to be worth his while. In other words, Bond was relying upon Ulixes, Lara's jaguar, who was currently draped out over most of the couch, to be a significantly large deterrent for a majority of the island's irritating people who might sit down near or next to him.
