Since getting a spot to sleep in at the Compound, Sally had spent the past few days by herself. As by herself as she could be, anyway, in a huge place like Tabula Rasa. She'd been reading a lot of books from the bookshelf, which always seemed to know just what she was in the mood for ( ... )

Chloe was determined to have at least a little fun today, since that seemed to be what the island wanted, and she figured that making sure other people were having fun would help. She saw the other girl when she grabbed a beer, and made her way over to her. "Have you gotten any beads yet?" Chloe asked, holding up an armful that she'd grabbed.

Sally narrowed an eye at the girl, thinking of the old Mardi Gras tradition. "We don't have to show our breasts for those, do we?" She said, smiling.

"Not to me, you don't. I'd need quite a few more drinks before that," Chloe replied, handing her a few colorful strands.

Sally laughed, taking the beads and putting them around her neck. "Thanks. I'm Sally."

"I'm Chloe. It's nice to meet you," she said, taking another look around. "It's amazing what can pop up sometimes in this place."

"Yeah. Do fully stocked parties come around here often?" Sally asked as she lifted her beer to her mouth.

"Sometimes, usually around holidays. There was a big party at the New Year," Chloe said. "Is this your first party experience here?"

Sally nodded. "Seems like the island likes it's inhabitants."

Tim needed his second drink and someone was standing in front of it. It wasn't until his 'Excuse me' that he realized the person who was in his way was quite pretty, if maybe a little young. Still, he smiled and ducked his head a little.

"Sorry," he said, gesturing at the drink behind her. "I was going for that."

"Oh no problem." Sally said, smiling sheepishly. "I shouldn't be standing here anyway, in between people and booze. I might get mauled." She laughed.

"No mauling," he returned, grinning faintly. "I promise." He held out a hand. "Tim McGee."

Sally shook his hand firmly. "Sally Sparrow. Nice to meet you." She took a swig of her beer, reminding herself to take her time. Taking sips of whatever she was drinking at a party was like a nervous tick. She did it when she didn't know what else to do, which was much of the time.

"So, how long have you been here?"

That was a good question. He had to think about it for a minute. "Almost six months." And that was a really long time when he thought about it like that. He took a sip of his own drink.

"How about you?"

"Almost a week." She said. "You must be used to all this by now, huh?" She asked, gesturing to the surprise, literally surprise, party.

He laughed and shook his head. "No. Oh, no. The island always does something surprising to you." He grinned. "For instance? There are apparently two laptops on the island that can walk and talk." He wasn't sure what you were supposed to do if your laptop decided to go for a walk when you were still doing something on it.
