A tall, brown-haired guy stood just to the left of the bookshelf in the rec room, a look of puzzlement slowly overtaking his face as he stared at the easel kit that seemed to have been mistakenly marked with his name. He fingered the tag for a long moment and shook his head. It wasn't anything like what he'd had at home - it was better, in fact - ( Read more... )

It wasn't often Jim was cross, but, really, Gideon always brought that out of him every time. He had just gone into the kitchen to grab something to eat before he went to find Pam when he nearly bumped right into the other man. He managed to just shoot a glare at him before trying to go about his business.

It had worked until it was obvious they were going the same direction.

"Can't you go someplace else?" he muttered as he pushed his hands into his pockets and headed into the rec room. It was all he said - even though Sam was with Tim, he still knew Pam, who he spotted almost immediately, didn't really like him fighting with him.

Gideon wasn't all that fucking happy to see him either. He wasn't following Jim when he went into the rec room, he was just looking for Desmond.

"Fuck off," he replied without hesitation. He was about to say something else when the sight of Desmond with some kind of easel was enough to make him raise an eyebrow.

"Shit, I didn't know you had one of those, man."

Pam looked up at the sudden commotion, her eyes narrowing the second she saw the two of them arguing. Thankfully, there was no need for her to step in, as Gideon walked over to Desmond instead of her, appearing to take interest in his surprise present.

She smiled brightly at Jim, hoping to take his attention away from Gideon.

"Hey."

"Neither did I," he murmured, still not looking up despite the hushed argument. "I just found it here. Addressed to me."

He ran a hand through his hair before finally lifting his eyes to Gideon. "I guess it's like your camera, then?"

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of something that gave him pause. He turned fully towards the woman he'd be talking to be for and where she was now sitting with... Gideon. Except Gideon was in front of him and the man sitting with Pam had shorter hair and...

"What the fuck??"

"See? I told you that shit just appeared out of no where," he said, nodding his head to Pam. Just because Jim was an asshole didn't mean he was going to be annoyed at Pam. He saw what Desmond was looking at and smirked.

"Oh, right. I never told you, right? There's a dude who fucking looks like me."

"Hey," he said to Pam, as he sat down next to her. He leaned forward to kiss her cheek. It was easier to pretend Gideon didn't exist with Pam around. "Drawing?"

And then he realized people were staring at him, and he looked up at the other two in the room.

"I was here first, so you technically look like me," he replied, rolling his eyes. With Pam around, he kept himself in check, but he still couldn't help but show a slight disdain for his presence.

She leaned into him a little more, relaxing against his side with a sigh. The moment she heard the louder voices of the other two, she tensed, her eyes widening.

"Does it really matter?" she asked exasperatedly. She was getting so tired of this. "You both look like each other, okay?"

Desmond's eyes went from Gideon to Pam to Gideon to the guy who looked sorta-but-not-quite-exactly like Gideon and back to Gideon again.

"You know them? Why does he look like you?"

He couldn't really understand all this crap at the same time. It was getting to be too much.

"Yeah, but we all know who's fucking better," he replied, under his breath, before turning to Desmond. "Don't fucking ask me, man. Weird island shit."

Jim had heard the comment, and he bit his lip to keep himself from commenting. God, he hated him, but he'd be good for Pam's sake.

"I'm Jim," he said to the other man. "People that look the same...isn't all that uncommon here. You'll get used to it."

Pam ducked her head a little, rubbing at the bridge of her nose with a thumb and forefinger.

"Great," she muttered to herself.

Desmond was starting to mimic Pam without even realizing it, but when he looked up at her, he quickly stopped what he was doing, rubbing his palm against his jaw.

"I'm Desmond," he replied, almost automatically, and sighed heavily.

"I should probably move all this stuff into our place, Gideon."

Gideon shoved his hands in his pockets, glancing at all the stuff lying around. He sighed and rolled his eyes.

"I guess I'll fucking help out. It'll take you forever to drag all this shit back to the hut."

He said it so casually it was almost as if it wasn't uncharacteristic of him to actually give a shit. Really, the island was changing him in noticeable ways, though it was happening so slowly he didn't even notice it.

"I'm guessing you're an artist, too?" he asked. Desmond didn't seem like the kind of guy that'd hang out with someone like Gideon, though he didn't say that outloud. He nudged Pam lightly in the arm. "You show him any of your stuff, Pam?"

Pam shook her head quickly, holding her sketchbook a little closer to her chest.

"I didn't."

She glanced sideways at the two other men and shifted restlessly in her seat.

Desmond could send Pam was getting uncomfortable - if the look on her face was any indication anyway - and started to attempt packing up the easel and accessories.

"Yeah, c'mon Gideon. It shouldn't take that long. There isn't that much stuff."
