It had worked until it was obvious they were going the same direction.
"Can't you go someplace else?" he muttered as he pushed his hands into his pockets and headed into the rec room. It was all he said - even though Sam was with Tim, he still knew Pam, who he spotted almost immediately, didn't really like him fighting with him.

"Fuck off," he replied without hesitation. He was about to say something else when the sight of Desmond with some kind of easel was enough to make him raise an eyebrow.

She smiled brightly at Jim, hoping to take his attention away from Gideon.

He ran a hand through his hair before finally lifting his eyes to Gideon. "I guess it's like your camera, then?"
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of something that gave him pause. He turned fully towards the woman he'd be talking to be for and where she was now sitting with... Gideon. Except Gideon was in front of him and the man sitting with Pam had shorter hair and...
"What the fuck??"

"Oh, right. I never told you, right? There's a dude who fucking looks like me."

And then he realized people were staring at him, and he looked up at the other two in the room.
"I was here first, so you technically look like me," he replied, rolling his eyes. With Pam around, he kept himself in check, but he still couldn't help but show a slight disdain for his presence.

"Does it really matter?" she asked exasperatedly. She was getting so tired of this. "You both look like each other, okay?"

He couldn't really understand all this crap at the same time. It was getting to be too much.

"I'm Desmond," he replied, almost automatically, and sighed heavily.
"I should probably move all this stuff into our place, Gideon."

"I guess I'll fucking help out. It'll take you forever to drag all this shit back to the hut."
He said it so casually it was almost as if it wasn't uncharacteristic of him to actually give a shit. Really, the island was changing him in noticeable ways, though it was happening so slowly he didn't even notice it.
