The Doctor found himself sometimes missing the oddest things. Momentary things, little quirks. A bottle of good wine. A chip shop. Bridges. Things came and went and didn't stay for very long, but when they were there, the feeling was quite intense.
Today it was pavement. He missed running on pavement, missed how it felt under his trainers, the lack of give and the smoothness and kerbs and...well, pavement.
He expected it would pass soon, but he didn't want to try to appease it with running on sand or grass or the dirt paths. It wasn't as though he wanted to replace any of that with pavement anyhow. Nor did he care to spend any more time pruning his garden, which was doing entirely too well. Instead, he perched on a rock near the waterfall and slowly carved at a piece of driftwood he'd brought back from the beach.
That was one benefit of being human. You could shut off your brain if you tried hard enough. And sometimes that was what had to happen.
Could go into ST due to my extended jetlag hangover, but if it's cool with you, that's brill. Saturday tags welcome.
