Claude hadn't been able to bring himself to get rid of Claire's teddy bear, especially after he'd seen the video and known for sure that she was gone. It wasn't even one of the ones that he'd given her, but it was hers just the same, and Claire was the only person on the island who'd really given a crap about him. It seemed a popular gift to distribute to an Island at large. Bennet hadn't shown his off, but he had kept it close, especially in the wake of Sylar and Claire's disappearance. He had watched the videotape, but Claire's words didn't resemble the daughter he wanted to acknowledge and he ignore its very existence.

Denial, after all, could be a powerful thing.

"Arming yourself to the teeth?" he asked, of Claude, giving the man warning of his arrival.

"Well seeing as I recently nearly saw Peter getting his throat slit, I thought it was appropriate," Claude said dryly, clicking the barrel of the gun back into place and twirling it on one finger.

"I heard," Bennet offered evenly, his hands casually in the pockets of a grey suit-jacket. The man might have left the company, but he hadn't left the suits behind, "that you had witnessed the event."

His composure was steadier now. Not an even hand, but getting there.

"Missing your abilities, obviously," Bennet interpreted of that. He always had spent so much of his time sitting and wondering just how often it was Claude had used them. "Still. It's good that you were there to shape events in the retelling."

"I didn't say that what you did wasn't a good act," Bennet said evenly in response, giving Claude a dubious look. "I'm well-aware of your effectiveness in those situations."
