The recreation room had become his most requented haunt of sorts, next to the mouth of the caves. There was still something in him, something he couldn't shake despite his efforts to, that longed for the welcoming solitude of the dark. He pushed it away, denied the urge when he could, trying to stay in the Compound or on the main paths, but somehow his feet would turn in that direction without his knowledge or permission. Perhaps it was odd, or even unhealthy, but he found such joy in a small crawlspace of rock he'd found, and to just curl up within and shut his eyes against everything for a spell. But no, not today. Today he denied to dark it's soothing siren's call and he sat comfortably in a chair reading a book he'd read often in his boyhood.

It wasn't until he set the book down for a moment to rest his eyes that he noticed the glass tank on a nearby table. He certainly hadn't seen it there before. He looked to see if anyone was hovering near it, perhaps to claim ownership, but no one struck him as so. He hesitated, but stood and approached, noting a tag on a string taped to the glass. When he looked closer, he saw what it read.

TO GREGOR

Puzzled but not concerned, he peered inside, eyes focussing on the dirt and moss and the hollowed out wood, all the habitat of something earthy. Unable to resist, he lifted the lid and reached inside, hand carefully exploring and retreating at a loud hiss. But before he could remove his hand, two large creatures scuttled onto his fingers and up his knuckles as two more appeared from beneath the wood, antennas twitching curiously.

He was stunned, to say the least. He did not recognise the exact species but knew that the insects were cockroaches of some type. They were large and somewhat brutish in appearance, but they lazily moved over his knuckles in the most charming of manner, antennas twitching in what he thought he recognised as a fond expression. He was, altogether, quite charmed and he stroked the shiny smooth shell of one's back with his fingertip as a smile crossed his lips.

"Hello. Welcome, my friends."

[Mmmmm, NDPD. He has four madagascar hissing cockroaches and he loves them already, feel free to come geek over them with him or be freaked out. Just don't hurt them! D:]]
