The Council room was discomfortingly crowded for Vimes' taste. Besides the members of the Council themselves, representatives of the Starks, and that damned Lannister woman, there was, oh so conspicuous in their inconspicuousness, the press.
A room full of people, and what were they here to talk about? Stabbings. Just bloody lovely.
As both a Council member and one of the IPD heads, it seemed to fall to Vimes to get things started. He took a gulp of his coffee and stood to address the crowd. "As most've you have probably heard by now unless you've been hiding out somewhere in the jungle, a couple've,ah... events happened shortly after the new year. Joffrey Lannister was stabbed by Sansa Stark, and a man called Sylar, who has been going by the name Drew O'Grady, was killed by Peter Petrelli. Both Miss Stark and Mr. Petrelli have admitted to their actions, and the IPD's come to the conclusion that both of 'em were acting in self defense. I've got the evidence for both cases here if anyone wants to take a look." He gestured to two piles of paper in front of him that included notes from interviews, photographs from the scenes and, in the case of the Lannister stabbing, of Sansa and her child's injuries, and reports from the squints.
"And then we need to decide what, if anything, we're going to do about it."
And then, if I'm lucky, I can go home and sleep.
