The weather, suffice to say, had taken a turn for the very, very strange.

Ainsley still wasn't used to the oppressive heat, the way it sank down her neck and caused little droplets of sweat to happen. Yes, of course she was used to it being as home was a frightening shade of warm and her office at the White House had probably been a sauna in some ( Read more... )

"C'mere Garm! Back here!" A little dog ran into the clearing and then through the trees, and a moment later a big man jogged after it. The tantalizing ideas of yet-unexplored bits of the island made it impossible to keep a hold of him, and he hadn't quite worked out a leash system yet.

The puppy ran right to the base of the peach tree and started barking excitedly. When Shadow caught up with him, he found an Ainsley wearing some very short shirts. In a tree.

"You're in a tree."

Ainsley leaned out precariously, her hair toppling over her shoulders to look at the dog barking up the right tree, in this case. "I am, yes, in fact up a tree. Shadow, your powers of observation are striking," she coyly remarked, keeping a grip on the branches tightly. "Is he yours? Mr. Excited and Barky?"

He smiled up at her, and there was something very strange about the idea of having to look up at her. "I've got a sharp eye," he said then reached down for Garm. He padded over for a pet, then looked up at her too. "So he seems to be, as of a few days ago. People seem to be getting weird pets all over the place, lately."

She was slowly starting to make her way down, a little wary of the dog. No, she obviously hadn't killed any of her pets, but at the same time, it wasn't like she was receiving awards for caring for them. She let her toes fall to the ground, still clutching a peach in one hand as she disembarked and landed with an 'oof!'

"Well, he's certainly eager," she observed, her nerves probably sniffable from a mile away around the animal.

Karen's standing at the foot of the tree with Hippo trailing from one hand looking up. She's got one eyebrow raised. She hasn't entirely processed what she's seeing.

"Did Shadow put you up there?"

Behind her, ShorHor is eating grass. Which is what horses do.

Ainsley glanced over her shoulder carefully, keeping her balance as she steadied herself in a crouch, peering down at Karen. "What?" she asked curiously. "No, no, I climbed up myself," she promised, slowly making her way gently back down the tree. "Although, Shadow sure could easily get me to the very top, couldn't he!"

"I bet he could," says Karen, a bit dreamily. "Like a giant."

Ainsley watched Karen with a bemused grin as she crouched down and extended a peach to Karen. "You should ask him to carry you. I'm sure he'd love carrying a Princess around."
