It was Alcuin's twenty-first birthday, and he was not feeling particularly festive.

He had found out only a couple of days earlier about James' disappearance, and on the heels of mourning over Giacomo's, it was a particularly harsh blow.

The timing was so cruel that he was beginning to wonder if it was some sort of belated punishment, for the blasphemy he'd once committed against Naamah for his reluctant entrance into her service. He thought he'd done his penance then - it was before he'd even come to the island! And of all things, Elua should understand, everything he'd done, he'd done for love...

But now the only two men he'd loved on the island were gone, and Anafiel dead in Terre d'Ange. Such was harsh punishment indeed.

And even if it were so, he could think of no way to make amends aside from entering Naamah's service again, willingly this time, but that was not exactly a practicality in his current surroundings. Knowing about something in theory is one thing, but somehow he did not think that the other island residents would exactly embrace a practicing prostitute, religious calling or not.

All he could think to do now was the pray on the issue, and the only silver lining was the statue of Elua that Queen Ysandre had found. He would have preferred a temple to Naamah for his current plight, but perhaps this would do. He approached the statue and carefully peeled off his shirt, bearing his marque before kneeling so that there was no mistaking who he was.

He knelt there for a long time, murmuring silently under his breath. When he finally began to rise, he felt he had no more answers to his questions, but he did feel a bit more at peace about them.

[OOC: The statue is not far from the waterfall, so anyone is welcome to come across him. He would be clearly visible from the waterfall and the path. Also I'm kind of handwaving the date on his birthday, as I know it was SOMETIME this past week, heh.]
