There were few things better, in Angela's opinion, than waking up to a whole butt-load of art supplies.
Well, there were actually quite a few things better, but considering she was on Mystery Island That Likes To Take People, she would take what she was given. With a smile.
Messenger bag loaded with fresh goodies, she walked along the beach, idly searching for inspiration and enjoying the warm sunshine when she caught sight of Glenn and the horse. With an appreciative whistle, she walked over. "She's pretty," Angela commented, knowing in the back of her mind that it was a lame compliment, but true.
Glenn had been keeping an eye on the surrounding areas, hoping for the horse's owner to come along. He spotted Angela as she neared, and he gripped the horse's reigns a little tighter, just to make sure the animal didn't startle and hurt itself or Angela. He wasn't too sure how she was around people, though she seemed gentle enough with him already.
"Indeed," he agreed, with a small smile. Truly, he could not help but have a bit of fondness towards the animal as it kept purposely trying to get him to pet her more. "I am nae sure where she came from, but it seems quite tame. Tell me, do ye know of another Glenn on this isle? The note attached to its saddle had that name on it."
Angela wandered closer, coming to a stop near both horse and green-haired knight. Smiling fondly, she reached out to stroke the horse's nose, then looked to Glenn with wide eyes, her expression slowly growing amused.
"Oh, no. Honey, see, the island does this sometimes. Well.. yearly, I guess," she explained with a slight frown, then carried on. "Last year, we woke up to presents. And this year, I woke up to art supplies." She lifted the swollen messenger bag up to prove her point. "If this horse just showed up this morning, tagged with your name... it's yours."
Another bit of island trickery? Yet this one, like the party, was not so bad, if she spoke the truth. He could not see why she would lie.
"A present," he repeated, trying not to chuckle as the horse simply soaked in the attention she was receiving. She did not fear humans, that was for sure. "It has been many seasons since I cared for a horse, but I think I remember how to do so, if that is the case."
As if responding, the horse nudged him with his snout in an almost friendly manner, letting out a snort;
A soft laugh slipped out of her at the horse's reaction and Angela slowly took a step backwards, keeping her hand on the animal's neck to let it know where she was. Her fingers combed through the mane.
"She seems sweet," she praised. "And I think more than a few people have ended up with horses. They'd help you remember." Angela paused, head cocking just slightly to the side as her eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Don't knights and things usually have steeds that they ride on?"
"I preferred to fight on foot," he admitted. The animals, too, had been uneasy sometimes with his strange appearance, but he did not mention that. "I would have likely earned a ceremonial horse upon receiving the rank of captain, but I was brought here before such a thing happened. Regardless, as a ward, I spent many days caring for the horses of the kingdom. I am sure all will be fine."
He watched the horse for a moment, and a realization struck him. "I suppose I ought to name her, if she is truly mine."
"She didn't come come with a name tag?" Angela asked. It didn't surprise her all that much, but it wouldn't have surprised her if the horse came with some kind of collar. The island was like that.
"Got any ideas?" she prodded, still stroking the horse. It was really beautiful, and Angela hadn't had a chance to interact with any nice animals in a while.
"Such a fine horse needs a strong name," he said, more to himself than to her as he looked at the animal. "Perhaps I shall name her Leene, in honor of the Queen."
It felt like a way to always remind himself of what he left behind; of his continued loyalty and devotion to the Crown, despite the unexpected distance between his kingdom and himself. Surely the Queen would approve of such a thing.
Angela noticed the choice of name, wondering about the reasons behind it. She looked thoughtful, taking a step forward again, keeping a hand on the horse though she'd stopped petting it for the most part now.
"That's a good way to remember her," she commented. "But since this came from the island, and not from her, maybe you should try something else." It was only a suggestion, and offered lightly, though she sort of hoped he'd like the idea. Why, she couldn't say. "Might want to keep the Island gods happy," she added with a laugh.
He did think the suggestion was quite valid, though the sentiment behind the name compelled him to remain
"I worry, sometimes, that the King or Queen will appear here one day and think I have forgotten my duties," he admitted quietly. "I dedicated my entire life to the cause; it seems a bit strange now to have it stripped from me - like I do nae know any longer have the purpose that drove me since I was a child. If I were to name her after something from home, perhaps it will show my fealty remains true to both my country and its leaders, despite my time away..."
He paused, and when he looked up, an embarrassed expression had crossed his face. "Ah, forgive me, Lady Angela. 'Tis nae thy burdens to bear. I suppose I am just thinking aloud."
Angela listened to Glenn speak quietly, an almost sympathetic look to her eyes. Strip away the accent, ignore the green hair, she could almost hear Booth speaking through him. He was just like every other true, good solider: dedicated, brave, focused, skilled, respectful, but also completely lost without a war.
She shook her head at his apology, but didn't refer directly to it. "There's no battle here, Glenn. You have no duties here. If you could leave, I'm sure you would. And if your king or queen showed up, I'm sure they wouldn't think you less loyal for taking advantage of the time you have here, not if they're a good king and queen who care about their people and their happiness. Dwelling on something you can't change, can't... affect..." She sighed. "I've never known that to make anyone very happy."
It was hard to move on, truly. There was some days he felt stripped of his identity, and he now walked a directionless path toward nothing at all.
"Thy words are undoubtedly truth," he replied, his eyes on the horse. And while she did not say anything about him speaking on such topics, he did not continue the conversation further. "I shall think on this some more. I will surely find ye when I decide."
Angela was no stranger to pushing a subject. She was friends with Brennan, after all. But she was nearly a stranger to Glenn, to his life before the island, hell to his life on the island. He effectively put an end to the conversation, and Angela let him, since that was what he wanted. It wasn't all that big of a deal anyway. Symbolic, yes, but he wasn't really torn apart. Soldiers kept it together.
"You'll let me know," she confirmed, then let a warm smile grow on her face. "And take me for a ride?" she added hopefully. "It's been a while since I've been on a horse."
"Of course," he smiled. "If I was sure now how her temperament is with riding, I would have offered already. She does nae look to be a problem, but I rather be cautious than to find out the hard way."
Laughing softly, Angela nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I'm not interested in taking a tumble. Besides, she's your horse now. The first ride belongs to you, and just you."
