She blinked at him. Oh, lord. Not this crap again. "No, I wasn't, Bobby." Her voice was low and even, a rough gravel that suggested I ain't shitting you, now shut up and listen. "I've been here six months, Bobby."

She paused. "Right before I showed up here, the Roadhouse was on fire, burning to the ground." Her voice shook a little, more than she'd like, but she kept on. "I turned around to get in the car and go to your place to find out what the hell happened, and I ended up here."

She kept going, explaining as best she could. "People show up from any time. Sam is from months before me, maybe even a year or so. Best we can explain it is that folks back home keep living their lives, and so does some doppelganger of ourselves, somehow." Her voice got quiet. "I never closed no Devil's Gate, but apparently I was there with you, clear as day."

She paused. "People get pulled here from home, and then-" She took a slow breath to steady herself. "then people get sent back. Dean just-" She stopped, turning her head and blinking out into the trees, trying to get them back into focus from the blur they'd become. "Dean was here, and he's gone again." She took a shaky breath, almost a sigh. "So, that's it. It's one messed up island, Bobby."

Bobby shut up and listened, though his eyes got wide as saucers and he couldn't hardly believe what he was hearing. This was Ellen, though, and she wouldn't make up shit or give him some kind of line.

"Well, shit," was all he could muster after a few moments of stunned silence. "Messed up sounds about right." He ran a hand over his face. "Yeah, you were there all right. That damn yellow-eyed demon got Jake, one of the kids like Sam, to open a Devil's Gate, and we managed to close it, but not before all kinds of who the hell knows what got out. And that ain't even the half of it. John climbed outta hell to save his kids, Lord knows if anyone could've done it it'd be his stubborn ass. And Dean shot the yellow-eyed demon with the Colt."

The last sentence was said with just a bit of pride, almost like a father praising the accomplishment of a son. He tucked the gun away and looked around them, surveying the area. "So this is an island, huh? And people show up and disappear like that-" he snapped his fingers- "with no warning?" He shook his head in disbelief. "Craziest damn thing I've ever heard."

"God, that musta been something, to see Dean take down that yellow-eyed sonofabitch." She shook her head ruefully and grinned over at Bobby. "Hell, I guess I probably enjoyed seeing it, considering I was there."

She shook her head at his last. "You have no idea how crazy." God, hearing Bobby analyze the whole thing made it sound somehow simpler. And like they could somehow figure it out, even after so many folks here had already tried. She was ready to drag him down to the bookshelf and figure something out. It just seemed like it wouldn't be quite so hard with Bobby here. Lord.

Her brain was caught on something that made her stop, smiling crookedly. She squinted at him carefully. "John mighta climbed outta hell for his boys, but he climbed right onto our beach, too. He's here, Bobby. Alive." Her eyes were glued to him, waiting.

"What?" Bobby couldn't believe what he was hearing. "John's here? Alive?? How the hell is that possible?" He'd seen John disappear with his very eyes, move on after the Yellow-Eyed Demon had been eliminated. Hell, Ellen had seen it too...just not this Ellen, apparently.

She grinned from ear to ear, glad to be the one to tell him. "People show up here after their dead, after they've been shot, after they're about to die..." She trailed off and shrugged. "John's here from about that time-- he climbed outta hell, and onto the beach." She remembered that day vividly, how convinced she had been that her eyes were playin' tricks, and how glad she was when they weren't.

She smiled fondly at Bobby, her eyes twinkling. "This place ain't all bad, Bobby." Her grin spread. "Just a little crazy." Sounded like their lives.

"Ain't all bad, just a little crazy," Bobby echoed, and returned Ellen's smile. "I think I can handle that."

The wind gusted, and he drew his flannel jacket a little tighter around himself. "Where the hell is this island, anyhow? Feels like goddamned Antarctica."

She smiled fondly at him, glad he was there. Gosh, she felt safe for some reason. Like things were just a bit better. Which, to be honest, they really were. It was good to see him again.

She realized they were still standing in the middle of the snow, and her eyes widened at Bobby's thin jacket. She stepped forward, grabbing his arm (half for support; it was damn slippery out) and leading him toward the compound. "Jesus, Bobby, I've been jawing about this crazy island and you're here freezing your ass off. Let's go inside."

"Damn good idea, Ellen," Bobby replied with a relieved smile, automatically bending his arm at the elbow when she took it. It was a hell of a thing he'd found himself in, but he was glad it had been Ellen that found him first. Always a good thing to have familiar faces around.

She squeezed his elbow, heading toward the compound. "We have coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and hopefully a couple answers." She shrugged. "Though I hafta tell you-- this place gets weirder and weirder every day." She paused. "This is a tropical island, Bobby. It's usually 80 degrees and sunny. But for the past month, it's been a goddamn winter wonderland." She shook her head. "This place not only drags people from wherever and whenever, it messes with us while we're here." She chuckled. "And it has it's own sick sense of humor."
