Gus was engaged in something of a war of wills. Would that that was an usual occurance. He'd come back from an hour spent sitting in the chill back row of the chill wooden church to find that his pig had moved into the kitchen and was refusing to move. Somebody had even draped him with a piece of silver tinsel stolen from the tree.

...Somebody had decorated his pig.

"You can't stay here," said Gus, biting into a slice of dried apple and then dropping one on the floor to see if he could tempt Hamlet. The pig didn't move. "There's no room for you in here. People eat their dinner in here. There's a woman who feeds her babeis in here." He crunched another slice of apple. "And she's terrifying."

Hamlet didn't move.

"Look. I understand your problem. I do. It's a long walk home, and you're very close to the snow. I understand that. Mayko's is much closer than home. You can just go to bed there. Maybe I can too."

He considered this for a moment.

Hamlet didn't move.
He did, however, shimmer festively in the light.
