Nathan isn't actually that uptight about cleanliness. He's really not. It's just that years of living with Curtis has driven him to find the hygiene standards of every other person he meets suspect. Really, Nathan has plenty of other interests, like classic rock and politics and the poetry of Leonard Cohen. He doesn't have to be trailing around behind people as they track in snow and mud and dead leaves and everything else that sticks to their boots when they're outdoors.
But he is.
He tries, but he just can't let it go. Would it be so hard to use the entry mat? Is it that hard to stop for a moment before tromping all over the compound and leaving a flowing deathtrap in their wake? Sooner or later someone's going to break a wrist or a hip or a neck, and then they'll be sorry they didn't listen to Nathan.
