Laura was feeling distinctly unsettled.
Not that she didn't usually feel a little unsettled here, but the sudden onset of winter weather, Sharon's outburst at her and Major Shaw's arrival had put her even more out of sorts than usual. And she couldn't understand what all the festivity in the Compound was all about - decorations, lights, people kissing each other under a twig hung in the rec room doorway. It seemed especially strange considering that people had died here, that disaster could strike at any time, and yet everyone seemed ready to celebrate.
Sometimes you needed to light a candle against the dark, she thought.
"Peace on earth, goodwill towards men" seemed to be the watchword of the season, at least according to the songs that the jukebox kept playing. It made her remember what Kara had said to her - that they had been fighting for so long, wasn't she ready for it to be over? And as for goodwill towards men... The Cylons were human now, weren't they? But she couldn't find any goodwill in her heart towards them, human or not. Though in a way, she almost wanted to. She was tired of fighting. She was tired of people shouting at her and blaming her for the decisions she'd made, when she knew she'd done the right thing. Or at least she'd done her best. She was only human herself, after all.
And here she was, sitting in the church that Leoben had built, thinking about the events of the past two months. It was cold in here, though not as cold as outside, and the light that came in through the windows was thin and pale. But even in the dimness, she could see a little figurine left by the altar - a statue of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, Apollo's twin. It was strange to see a fragment of home here, and she wanted to pray to this Lord of Kobol, to pour out her heart, but no words would come to her, and she sat in silence, her cold hands clasped in her lap.
[Thoughtful ex-President in the church. Religious/spiritual pups and fellow BSG pups - yes, even Cylons - are especially welcome to tag.]
