That's the jingle bell rock!

Karen hadn't found anyone named Brodie or Nick yet, and she was beginning to think that Karen (the other Karen, that is) had made them up to make it seem like all the guys she knew weren't gay. Being a matchmaker was hard, especially with imaginary straight people.

That wasn't to say that she had given up, though. No, she still thought Karen was ( Read more... )

Sam Winchester wasn't scared of much. Not after he had seen some of the worst things the shadows had to offer. But standing there and watching this, he got a little scared. Not even for himself, but god help Dean if he saw this. Or...wait, was that Veronica's friend? "Lilly?" he asked, confused.

"No! I'm Karen!" said Karen, a little breathlessly, as she hadn't stopped dancing even when she'd seen the boy enter the room. Boys liked to watch her dance, usually. "It's okay, though! Everyone makes that mistake!" She twirled, swivelled her hips, twirled again. She was so out of practice. She was pretty sure she was out of time with the music.

Yeah, the fear was slowly giving way to horror, mostly because he wasn't sure if he was supposed to be watching this, what with the groveling and all. This probably constituted something wrong and he immediately stared just to the side. "Karen," he repeated, eyes on boring concrete. "Hi, Karen," he greeted warily.

"Hi!" She sang the next few verses of the song, spun around a few times, and smacked into the wall.

Definitely out of practice.

"Ow," Karen said, rubbing her nose as she righted herself. The last strains of the song died away, only to begin again at the first. Karen turned and frowned at the jukebox. Shaking her head, she decided to ignore it. She was all worn out now and wanted to eat her cake.

"Hey! Do you like cake?" she asked the boy. "I have some here. Now, where did I put it..."

Okay, Sam stopped ignoring and rushed in when she smacked into the wall, being very careful and resting one hand behind her, as if she might just faint any second. "Yeah, cake is...okay," he managed with a strained laugh, giving her an incredulous look. "Are you okay? You just went into the wall."

"Oh, I know," Karen assured him brightly. Up close, he was pretty cute. "That happens sometimes. I'm really clumsy." She smiled at him. "What's your name?" He was nice, too. And he didn't seem to think she was too stupid to talk to, like a lot of people here. She wished she had met him at the party.

"I'm Sam," he introduced himself, extending a hand to shake. "Sam Winchester." He couldn't help but offer a sympathetic smile at the clumsy part, because he'd definitely known one or two times when he'd tripped and ruined something. "A fellow klutz."

"Hi Sam!" said Karen enthusiastically, staring at his hand for a moment before she figured out she was supposed to shake it and doing so. "How long have you been on the island? I haven't met you before."

"Me? Two years and counting," he said with a boyish and wide grin, shaking her hand. "Which pretty much counts as forever when it comes to the way life is here with no job or purpose, most times. You?"

"Like, a couple of months," Karen confessed. "It seems like forever, though! But it's good. I don't have to go to school...but I did sign up for a couple classes, just to pass the time, you know." There was a small, thoughtful pause. "Physics is like health, right?"

"No," Sam said gently, completely kind too. "No, physics is a ton of equations and stuff. Phys. ed is gym. And health and running around in uniforms."

"Oh no!" Karen looked horror-struck. "I signed up for the equations and stuff one! What am I gonna do? I suck at math!" She looked so distraught only the most heartless of evil people wouldn't feel sorry for her.

"Maybe you could find a tutor?" he suggested with a warm grin on his face. It was sort of...well, kind of cute in the way that turtles swimming into a wall were. Fairly harmless, but amusing to watch. "There's a lot of smart people around."
