Susan hadn’t been hiding. She had just been incredibly busy exploring the remote parts of the island with Binky. The fact there was no one else in the remote parts was an added bonus. She knew she had to come back to reality eventually - and she was pretty sure Anya was going to call a search party if Susan didn’t show her face soon.

Susan had been “exploring” since Halloween, at first just leaving the compound before dawn and returning well after midnight but then it was for a couple of days at a time. While she knew that the way things had turned out wasn’t her fault or within her control, she was quietly confident that someone was going to take issue with her, and it seemed likely that it was going to be one of the reapers, or the loved one of someone who had died.

Susan doesn’t flinch from confrontation, but she would prefer it if when the confrontation came she had something better to say than “I cant control it”. It sounded like a stupid excuse even to her, and she knew it was the truth.

Susan had also made a promise to Lucy, and she intended on keeping it. School term was starting soon and she wasn’t at all prepared, she needed books and supplies and she was hoping that the bookshelf would be of some assistance. She was going to have to return to compound life whether she liked it or not.

Standing in front of the bookshelf, swearing under her breath and rummaging through an enormous pile of obituaries, Susan finally got her hands on some books that might actually be useful*.

* With titles like “The Sto Plains - Cabbage Capital of The Disc”, “The Prince Non-Monarchical Leader” by Havelock Vetinari, and “Easy Mathematics for Practical Use and Profit” by CMOT Dibbler, lessons were bound to be educational.
