It had to be done, though he hadn't yet. Ragetti had been his patient, primarily. Wilson found him dead, and his chart needed to be moved to inactive status. Accessing the file, he read over his notes from the pirate's broken wrist, from his strong reaction to caffeine, from his intake exam after the thing with the squid ( Read more... )

Natural order is in F's soul, as much as a soul as she can have. It's just that natural order is rarely what the humans believe it to be. Even locked up in this place, F is aware of it, of the whimpering of the wounded at night and the exhaustion of the doctors.

It's so delicious that she doesn't even bite them. Just a lick, here or there.

She crawls out from under a bed to look at This Doctor, skitters over to sniff his feet.

Well, this was odd, the young woman crawling out from under the bed. She hadn't said anything, but the sniffing reminded him of Death, whom he still missed.

He smiled and raised a hand in a friendly wave, wondering what she got from his scent. She didn't seem frightened, just... curious.

F looks up at him, but of course looks and doesn't look because her eyes don't focus in this harsh light and because she just doesn't care to. She sees without looking.

She's as pale, as breakable looking as ever, the places the IVs have gone in her vivid on her skin.

She yawns, showing her teeth.

Wilson crouched down near the girl, but not too near. There was no reason to startle her. "I'm James, and I'm on duty today." He spoke to her in a calm voice and wondered why she had so many marks on her arms, obviously from IVs, and why there's no line at this point. From the looks of her, he'd guess she was sedated, or went through something bad on Halloween.

He wondered if she understood him. "Can I get you some water?" He curved his hand and raised it to his mouth, as if he were holding a glass.

It occurs to her, in a faraway feeling, that he doesn't know who she is. She doesn't feel much like making eye contact, and is distracted by the sudden tiny dart of a bug across the room.

Quick, she scampers over and eats it. It's the only solid food she likes.

Watching the girl catch and eat the insect seemed weirdly fascinating, as though he was watching it happen in a movie. She had to be Dr. Maturin's patient. Wilson had only heard of her existence, but no real details other than the abnormal nature of her diet.

"You need to eat. If you'll stay with me, we can go out and find you some more food." Wilson suspects that she has sharp hunting instincts. He knows there are bugs around, and that the ones without bright colors shouldn't hurt her system.

F can pick out a few of his words. Eat, food, stay. She peeks curiously down at her arms to see if any IVs have appeared.

There are none, and so she skitters over to Girl Doctor's things, and finds the Japanese phrasebook. She pushes it at him, not making eye contact.

He looked at the book and determined that the girl was not, in fact, non verbal. She simply didn't speak Englsh. OK then.

"iWatashi no namae wa James desu." That was easy enough. He didn't think he would find a way to ask if she wanted to find more bugs in a guidebook for tourists. He flipped through some pages, scanning them quickly. Finding the word for "meal," he settled on that. "Shokuji ? Um Iki tai?"

He'd probably just asked her out to dinner.
