(no subject)
It'd been a while since Jayne had written to his ma.
He knew by now the letters would probably never get to her. He still had the other one he'd written stashed away in his bunk. But it made him feel better to pretend that maybe someday they might leave this crazy-ass piece of rock and head back to civilization. Because this place might pretend like it was civilized, but as far as he was concerned, wasn't no such thing as civilization without booze and money and stuff to do besides sitting around and shooting Reavers that shouldn't have been there in the first place.
He sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, and bent over the paper, frowning in concentration.
Dear Ma:
How are you? I am fine.
Always a safe beginning.
I am sorry I havent written for a while. Things have been kind of crazy here lately. Well first they was boring but then last week there were Reavers attacking and lots of other crazy stuff going on and some folk died. Everybody on the ship is OK though including me but River got cut up some. I dont know if I told you about River but she is crazy a gorram pain in the neck a girl who was traveling with us and the Captain has taken a fancy to her which I dont like much but I cant do nothing about it.
Anyway I dont know if I told you before but Shepherd Book came back from the dead or somesuch and Inara came back too so everyone is here now except Zoe and Wash. And thats good so not everything is bad here. Maybe we'll be back in the black soon so I can deliver this letter but if not I will just save it for another time.
I hope you and Matty and Dad and everyone are doing OK.
