"Can't decide which city to visit?" Angua asked dryly, pausing in her walk. This place was making her go a little crazy, what with the whole striking up conversations with random people thing. Or maybe it was just her copper's sense tingling, the woman looked livid. People that angry were sometimes prone to making bad choices.

"Very amusing. Oh yes. You ought to join a circus and tell those sorts of jokes to get people to ask the lion to eat them," Adora Belle muttered, only half-under her breath. She stopped pacing and lifted her head to get a better look at the woman. She vaguely recognized her, but that wasn't saying much - there were a lot of people here Adora Belle vaguely recognized.

"You're with the Watch, aren't you?" It was the walk and the posture more than anything else. Watch officers walked a certain way, stood a certain way - as if they owned the streets.

Well, there weren't any streets here.

Angua was taken aback. It was kind of sad that finding another resident of Discworld, and perhaps even Ankh-Morpork, was something to be surprised about.

"Yes." Even if it was called something else. "Interested in joining?" she asked, though it was quite obviously not asked in seriousness. But who knew, if some of the other IPD members were to be judged her guess was that the IPD took all sorts. Same as home.

"Not unless they supply free cigarettes," said Miss Dearheart. Unlikely, she knew. She'd met Vimes, anyway, and he hadn't mentioned anything of the kind. Though he had been smoking a cigar.

"Besides, I don't think they'd condone what I'm considering doing at the moment." Murder was generally unacceptable to the Watch unless you paid them enough to look the other way, and even then you had people like Vimes to deal with.

Angua simply raised an eyebrow in question. This eyebrow arch said It might not be the smartest idea to confess your diabolical plot to a copper, but please, I'm all ears.

"Have things been going missing lately? Small, apparently inconsequential things out of people's belongings?" Adora Belle asked, confessing nothing. She wanted to find out if she was the only one Moist had the cheek to steal from.

"Not that I know of," Angua answered honestly. She was fairly new to the Watch here, which had her a little miffed to say the least, but she hadn't heard of a sudden thieving ring of 'inconsequential things.' "If they're inconsequential, it's likely no one reported it."

"Of course they didn't." Adora Belle sighed. She briefly considered reporting the disappearance of her cigarettes, but it was likely the Watch would merely say that she had left them out in the open (more or less) and should have expected this to happen.

The worst thing? They were right.

"Would you like to report anything?" Angua offered. Although she had to admit, she would be a little disappointed if her first real assignment was to hunt down an errant barrette, or, more likely in this woman's case, a cigarette that was probably already smoked by now.

"No," Adora Belle sighed with a shake of her head. "I know who did it. I was just trying..." To get up the courage to go and eviscerate him? That would sound good to a copper.

Angua let her sentence hang for a long moment.

"Right then. Well, I could come with you to talk to said person. I might not look it, but I have sent men running and crying to their mums," she said without arrogance. It was just a fact. A few bites had them wishing they hadn't done whatever it was she had been biting them for.

"Oh?" Adora Belle gave her a searching look.

"Do you wear heels?"

Angua blinked. "What in the world does that have to do with anything?"
