Charlie was up early, stifling a yawn against the back of her hand as she shuffled into the kitchen in a pair of plaid boxer shorts and one of Hiro's white t-shirts.

When she saw the man with the baby, she automatically smiled.

"Oh, hey, gorgeous. You remember me?"

He turns to the girl and blinks, momentarily unsure who she's talking to. He glances down at Flo, who's waving her arms unsteadily. "Uh... have we met?"

"You know, I don't think we have, but me and th' little darlin', we're well acquainted."

Charlie stuck out her hand, stifling another yawn against the back of her hand.

"I'm Charlie...Charlie Andrews."

"Are you?" He smiles a little wryly. Somehow it doesn't surprise him that his daughters would know more of the Island than he does at this point.

"Mike." He takes her hand with his free one and looks her over a little more carefully. Cute. Good body. In the days before a certain goddess...

Well, now's not then.

"When did you meet her?"

"Well, hey there, Mike." She reached out and shook the baby's little hand. "She was hangin' out with Neil in the rec-room the other day."

"You..." He pauses and thinks back. Neil had taken one of them a few days ago, he remembers, but that had been...

"Oh, that was Mack," he says. "They're twins. Sometimes I still can't even tell 'em apart." He grins, feeling an odd sense of pride. "This is Flo."

"Oh," said Charlie, still grinning all over her face. "Oh."

She beamed at him.

"Well, ain't you the luckiest daddy in the world? Two girls this beautiful?"

The pride feels almost awkward now, mostly because he's not sure how warranted it is. He still feels like his involvement in the creation bit of this is minimal at best.

"You should see their mom," he says, shuffling his feet slightly. "They got it all from her. Thankfully."

"Oh, I don't know." Charlie reached out and touched the top of Flo's head very gently. "This cutie's certainly got your eyes."

She does, at that. He had sort of expected them to get smaller and less blue with time, but if anything they've increased on both counts. He shrugs, smiling a little uncertainly.

"You wanna hold her?" The corner of his mouth quirks. "Be doin' me a favor. Been up with her since dawn."

Charlie's arms shot out almost automatically, though, this time, she managed not to squeak.

"Yes. Please."

She blushed.

Once, he'd been the type to roll his eyes at how women are with babies. Like dangling a steak in front of a dog.

He doesn't think like that anymore. At least, not so uncharitably.

"Here you go." He gently transfers Flo over, and she gurgles as she goes. "She shouldn't scream. Seems like she likes everyone else about ten times as much as me."

Charlie settled Flo against her chest, turning in a slow circle with her as Flo curled little fingers into her long red hair.

"Oh, she's precious. Aren't you, precious?"

He watches them, feeling weirdly protective even though he knows there's no need; Charlie handles Flo like holding babies is familiar. Hell, for all he knows women are born knowing this shit.

"She knows," he says, smiling faintly. "Don't make her head any bigger than it already is."

Charlie nodded and kissed the top of Flo's head, taking a deep breath and inhaling the scent of her little head, her hair.

"I don't know how you ever put them down."

He quirks a smile at her. "You ever have one, you'll know. Or do you?" He turns back to the stove, rummaging around for the kettle. "Look like you know what you're doing."
