Though Anne was not giving a speech herself this time, she did take on the task of opening the afternoon of speeches, one of her last duties as a member of the Island Council. In fact, it was because she was not running in the election this time that made her quite well suited to this particular task.
"Ladies and gentlemen," she said, standing right up at the edge of the stage in her best dress (and in fact, the only semi-formal outfit she owned that had been altered to fit her current size). "Thank you for taking the time to come out here today and participate in the democratic process, something which I hold near and dear to my heart. Each nominee for the next Island Council has been invited to address you all in order to state their position and seek your support in this election. Should you have any questions for any of the candidates, please do wait for the candidate to finish speaking before addressing them so that they might have everyone's full attention while delivering their speech. Once again, thank you for coming, and I do hope you will enjoy this afternoon as much as I am certain that I will."
Really, there was nothing more to say, and Anne left the stage to make room for the first candidate to begin his or her speech.
[ ooc: the only top level tags should be Council nominee speeches (or public declining of nomination); questions or responses can then be directed to any of them ]
