He wasn't going to let this get to him. The wind blew a bit harder and the whispers kept going, persistent, just a bit louder, to demand attention. To demand surrender. But he wasn't going to. He wasn't bloody going to acknowledge this madness. He flinched as he saw a hand. He wasn't going to let any of these people near him either. He knew what ( Read more... )

Alex was still looking for further signs that he was or was not being watched. Anything would work, a bug, a hidden camera, a spy. When some guy almost ran into him before very suddenly stopping, Alex couldn't possibly guess that his searching had been answered or that a German was probably the last thing needed right now.

"What the fuck? Are you alright?"

The accented voice didn't help. It caused Guy to think he was still hallucinating. He tried to move away from him, but his arm was far too painful. "Go away." He tried, trying to make the vision disapear.

Shit. Someone else thought he was out to kill them just because of his accent. Alex lowered his voice and offered a hand to help the other man up. "Hey. It's ok. I am not going to hurt anyone. I promise."

Suddenly the forest was more clear to him, his painful arm was no longer painful and the young man in front of him was just a young man and not a soldier.

Guy sighed, accepted the hand and stood up. Rubbing his head he looked around once more. They were all gone. "I'm sorry. Must have been miles away." He said, in an attempt to correct the fearful expression of seconds ago. It didn't work. He still sounded shaken up.

Alex gave a very small smile. "It's alright. You're only the third person to think I was evil." This guy looked like he could really use a drink. Or maybe three.

"What happened? You were running and then--" Alex made a face and slammed his fist into his palm. "Like there was a wall."

"I rather hoped I had bumped into you, actually." So he hadn't run into the other and his mind hadn't shaped that into a fence. There truly had been nothing.

He shook his head. "No. Almost but you stopped first. What did you think I was, a soldier? Were you in the war like the other man?"

Guy tried to think of an excuse, but was still too shaken up to come up with anything so he didn't answer the first question at all. "No, I'm from 1937 - between wars."

He looked at his hands again. There truly was no blood on them.

"Ah. Like Julian. Well, I am from 1990 and there is no war. Or no war with Germany." Alex paused to try and see what Guy found so fascinating about his hands. He didn't see anything.

"Do you want a drink?"

"I would love a drink." Guy admitted. He then rubbed some of the sand off his shirt, finally clearing up that there was no blood and deciding that this hallucinating madness that had come over him was getting worse.

But first, a drink. "You know Julian? He's from a few years into what I would call past."

"Yeah. I met Julian when I arrived on this island. I think he thought I was a nazi." Alex started walking back towards the compound, but he looked over his shoulder to make certain Guy was following. "My name is Alex."

"Oh, I didn't. I just eh..." But he couldn't think of an excuse. "Guy." He introduced himself instead as he picked up the pace and walked beside the other.

"It is funny that you know Julian. So did the other man, Blunt. It is as though I only meet people who know each other. It doesn't make sense, but I do." He kept walking at a fairly fast pace, wanting to make it to the compound and beer as quickly as possible. Drinking required less English.

"Anthony. I know him well too. Must be an Island coincidence. There are a lot of those types of coincidences about." Guy said. The pace was welcomed. Drinking required less thinking.

"It probably thinks it is being a funny island. Fucking island." Alex looked overe at Guy. "Are you alright with beer? That is all I have."

"Amen." Guy wholeheartedly agreed to that sentiment. "Sounds good to me, haven't had a pint in ages."
