Now that Lennox was finally feeling better and he knew he wouldn't get into trouble from Stephen for going into the rink and actually curling, he'd thrown up a sign on the bulletin board a few days ago, announcing that the first curling lesson was finally going to happen that Tuesday. Lily and Emmy were sitting in the stands, watching the lessons going on. Lily had decided that it was a good idea to keep Emmy off the ice on this particular occasion. Emmy was reading a book and Lily was brushing her hair.

"Curl!" yelled Emmy, and Lily raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, kidlet. Curling."

"Are you sure you don't want to be down there with us, Lill?" said Eddie. "I'm sure we can find someone to watch Emmy, and you could get back on the ice again."

[ooh_lily]

Lily grinned and shook her head.

"I'm okay for now, honey. You've got your hand full of learners. You definately don't need an old hand screwing things up, eh?"

[single_digit]

"Yeah, but you're a girl," said Eddie, "and if we want other girls to play, then maybe we need a girl on the ice who knows what she's doing."

[ooh_lily]

"What do you think, Emmy? Think mommy needs to go down there and teach girls how to curl?"

Emmy seemed enthusiastic.

"Okay," said Lily. "I guess I'm coming down."

"We can just take turns watching her till someone wants to take her off our hands," said Eddie. "As long as we can keep her from chasing the rocks, she'll be all right."

[ooh_lily]

"I just don't want her getting hit by a rock," said Lily, as she climbed down onto the ice. "She's only little and people are a bit...erratic."

[single_digit]

"I think between the two of us we can keep her out of trouble," said Eddie, which had the ring of famous last words once they were out of his mouth.

[ooh_lily]

Lily glared at Eddie, looking highly dubious.

"You had to say it."

[single_digit]

"She's not even two yet," said Eddie, lifting her up into his arms. "If we can't keep her out of trouble now, what's it going to be like in a year?"

[ooh_lily]

"Chaos," said Lily, her arms folded across her chest. "I'm almost certain of it, too."

[single_digit]

"Now who's jinxing things?" said Eddie. "Maybe she'll be really well behaved."

[ooh_lily]

"Maybe she will," said Lily. "Wonders will never cease."

[single_digit]

"We don't spoil her too badly," said Eddie, a little defensively. "She's already learning to be self-sufficient."

Of course, maybe that was the problem.

"Is she curling yet?" Lily raised an eyebrow. "If she isn't, you've almost certainly been letting the side down."

[ooh_lily]

"I am pretty sure she could feed herself without us," said Lily. "She's a little like a stray cat in that respect."
