It'd taken John maybe about three seconds after he woke up to realize what was different, and a minute after that to suffer another round of disappointment when the Chair didn't work. (Or the lifesigns detector.) That was sort of becoming the norm, though, and John wouldn't admit to anyone that he sat in the Chair at least once a week, and every ( Read more... )

Smoothing back the ballgown she wore now as she trudged down the path, Veronica came to a stop when she heard Shep laugh. And then she saw him - floating - and stared. "Don't forget the faith and trust," she supplied dryly. "The pixie dust only does so much good on its own. But keep thinking happy thoughts."

"Happy thoughts are all I've got," John called back, trying for a few more feet before he turned in midair. Coming back down was still tricky, and he just knew his knees were going to punish him in the next few days, but at least he was upright. "Hey, Veroni- huh. Where's Prince Charming?"

"I ditched the bastard back at the ball," Veronica deadpanned. The way she arched her eyebrow now, arms crossed, practically dared him to continue mocking her; he probably didn't need the encouragement. "Some ditz in a mechanical bubble waved a wand and stuck me in River in stuff out of Strictly Ballroom Barbie's wardrobe."

No, John didn't need much incentive to mock Veronica; he was quickly figuring out he'd gotten the better end of the stick today. "Well, you don't look too bad," he said, the corners of his mouth twitching. "You can't get rid of it?"

Teyla had seen him almost crash, and had seen him... Float? She'd then seen him fall, rushing over to make sure he was alright, and that she was not having another sort of hallucination. "John?"

"Teyla," John said, and he punctuated the happy word by floating up and leveling out around waist height. With a little more concentration, he managed to get himself upright, and he grinned down at her. "How cool is this?"

"You appear to be floating," She responded evenly, unsure of just what was going on.

"I know!" John crowed. He tried going just a bit higher, and managed to clear Teyla's height before he abruptly dropped back down to the ground. His knees buckled, but he stayed on his feet. "I can fly, Teyla. Well, eventually, once I get the hang of this"

She was stuck in a pink ballgown. Again.

This one lacked glitter, although she was reluctant to acknowledge that there was any part of it that wasn't as bad as the rest. That was where the trouble started.

She and her (currently pink) direwolf paused when they caught sight of Sheppard, troubles temporarily driven from mind. Well, for Arya. Nymeria may still have been concerned; Arya wasn't actually sure if Nymeria could even tell she was pink. Could direwolves see colour?

"You're floating," she said dumbly, to the floating John.

"You're pink," John said back just as surprised, then added, "again."

He slowly lowered himself down, and while he hit the ground a little harder than he anticipated (he was too used to inertial dampening), at least he was still on two feet. "Why are you pink? And all dressed up?"

"Sansa and her friend Glinda," Arya grumbled. "They flew off before I could make them change my clothes back. How come you can fly? What's going on?"

John blinked at Arya, then grinned. "I don't know, and I really don't care," he said. "If it means I get to fly, then I'm just going to enjoy it."

He was pretty sure that Arya wouldn't see things the same way, but hell. John would've been pissed if he got stuck in a gown also.

Sharon saw John up ahead...floating in midair. She hurried over, but by the time she reached him he was on the ground like normal.

"John, were you just...flying?" she asked, looking bemused.

"I so completely was," John said, giving Sharon the brightest grin he could manage, one that usually only made an appearance during times like these. "I'm not exactly sure how, though."

Sharon looked around, but she couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

"What were you thinking about? When you started to fly?"

Peter was watching from quite a bit higher up, resting on one of the fluffier clouds that was drifting by.

He hadn't seen any grown-ups flying before, even with all the strange sort of magic people had today. There was a mean spark of triumph in him when the man fell down again, but Peter flew down to hover over him all the same.

"You're woeful, you know," he told him seriously. "You're never going to get up like that."

John blinked up at the kid who seemed to have the whole flying thing down - he didn't look like he was up there by accident, anyway - and rose an eyebrow at what he said.

"Well, this is kind of a new development for me, he said, groaning as he sat up and brushed dirt off the front of his shirt. "I'm used to planes, or spaceships."

Peter rolled his eyes at the mention of planes. Grown-ups would think of flying like that. The spaceship did sound rather neat though.

"That's not proper flying," he told him in a bit of a know-it-all voice. When it came to flight, Peter couldn't help himself. "Getting off the ground shouldn't be that hard. If you can't believe you're up there why should the air?"

Considering the kids he knew on the island, John wasn't above giving this one a glare for saying what he'd been doing for the past twenty years of his life was wrong.

It faded a bit when he actually listened to what he said, though, and made a thoughtful noise. "Never thought of it that way," he admitted. It was kind of a chidish way of thinking it, but really. He was the one still on the ground.

Getting off the ground didn't take too much concentration, mostly because John'd already done it. Even if it'd been by accident.
