Geoffrey's first impulse had been to whisk Duck off somewhere for the night without telling anybody, maybe grabbing something to eat or drink but that's about it. But he isn't Duck's only friend. Hell, he isn't even Duck's only family on the island. So he concedes that he has to share, at least for part of the night.

It's a good thing that Kate knows what she's doing, because much like their wedding, if left to his own devices Geoffrey likely would've just told people to show up and left it at that. Kate had the foresight to make sure there was cake and food and a few decorations so that it looks like the birthday party it is.

They hadn't planned it as a surprise, but he hadn't gone out of his way to say anything about it to Duck either other than to acknowledge that he hadn't forgotten the day was coming up. So he hopes that Duck is at least a little surprised - or if not surprised, then at least pleased - at what they've put together for him in the common area of the Hamlet.

[ ooc: Duck's birthday party! It wasn't publicly announced, but if you're Duck's friend, family or coworker you've already been invited. :) ]
