Take a sad song and make it better.

It had started as a fairly innocuous morning, not unlike any other. After a bit of a snuggle with Sarah Jane, Peter had made his way to the Compound for a shower and some breakfast. Some coffee and a pastry, and he had to admit, the coffee quality was much, much improved since they'd discovered the plants and started grinding their own ( Read more... )

Trance looked up from her book when she heard singing. And then she blinked. It was the Doctor. Smiling to herself, she couldn't help but start humming along. It was certainly a catchy tune and she could see why someone would suddenly start singing it.

After a minute, she started clapping. "Very nice, Doctor."

At that point, Peter wasn't certain whether to be flattered or irritated at being mistaken for the Doctor. He tried to take it all with a grain of salt, and that it was anyone other than Sarah Jane doing the mistaking helped.

"I'm not the Doctor," he answered once the song was done, and the moment he opened his mouth and spoke in with his Scottish brogue, he felt certain that would be clear enough anyhow. "But thank you." He grinned, even though he was only vaguely aware of what he was being praised for.

Trance buried her face in her hands. "Not again," she said, but there was laughter in her voice. After a minute, she peeked through her fingers. "You didn't have the accent when you sang," she accused. "Or at least I didn't hear it."

She stood up slowly and walked over to him, circling him. "Hmm. Well, Giacomo was really different than the Doctor." She didn't mention that she'd mistaken him for the Doctor, too. "I think...you have shorter hair. Not so messy."

There. That should be enough to distinguish them in the future. From looks alone, at least. The voice was a dead giveaway.

Peter blinked. "I do?" His eyes went towards his hairline, as if he might actually be able to see his own hair. Both hands pulled up on his hair to see how long it had gotten. Apparently, the state of his hair was of more note just that moment than the fact that he was conversing with a woman who was purple.

"You do," she said, leaning in with a conspiratorial whisper. "I don't think yours sticks up quite so much." She glanced around, as if expecting the Doctor to come around the corner. "Besides. He doesn't sing. Or at least hasn't when I've been around him."

She gave him a satisfied nod, as if all her questions were answered.
