She knows exactly how to carry on - so run, baby, run.

In my defense, it's not like I disappeared off the face of the planet. Sure, I may have been a little harder to reach than usual, but it's not like I haven't been around. Sleeping in my own room hardly qualifies as hiding.Veronica Mars had been scarce, though. She'd spent most of the last week out of sight, training harder, running further from her ( Read more... )

Things had been weird lately. The uneasiness he had felt since he found out his clone hadn't dissipated. He didn't see the guy around often, but it was just enough to remind him he was now stuck with someone that looked like him who he didn't exactly like much.

Or at all.

Pam had Sam with her, so he decided to take a walk. Not far from the room, he found Veronica heading toward him.

"Hey, Veronica," he greeted, offering her a tired smile. It had been a long night the night before; Sam had just refused to go to bed.

"Hey, you," she said, smiling, equally weary at the edges -- but only because it was Jim. She stepped over and slipped an arm around his waist, like she might've done with her dad, and grinned. "You look like the walking dead."

"Thanks," he snorted, ducking his head and reaching up to rub at his eyes. It was almost tempting to try to lean against her, because really, all he wanted to do was find some place to relax right now.

"All night, Veronica. I didn't even know she had it in her to cry that much," he said, with a sort of exasperated laugh.

"Anytime," she murmured. "And she's a baby. Of course she's got it in her. It's, like, all they've got in 'em." With an upward nod, Veronica nudged Jim further down the hall. "Come on, let's sit you down before you collapse on me."

"What, you mean you don't want to carry me?" he asked, with an exaggerated frown as he let himself be led toward what looked like the rec room. "I'm hurt, Veronica."

"As I would be," she countered, "if I even thought of trying to do that." Flashing a grin at Jim, she flopped down in a chair, drawing her legs up against herself.

He sat in an adjacent seat, slouching down. It felt good to be off his feet.

"So, how's things going, Mars? Keeping out of trouble?"

"I can't answer that," Veronica deadpanned. "I'd have to kill you, and that could be a problem." She drew a leg up against herself, tilting her head back against the chair. "What about you? What're you up to beyond the daddy blues?"

"Nothing really," he admitted. "Finally met my clone, so that was fantastic. Or, you know, completely awkward."

"Yeah, the part where he pulled a gun on me was pretty awkward, too," Veronica mused, tapping her fingers against her thigh. "What happened?"

"Yeah, he pointed it at a few people until Sheppard eventually took it away," he muttered. "But he was swearing in front of Sam, and being a general jerk to me, and I swear he kept flirting with Pam - I don't know. He rubs me the wrong way, and I told him so."

And then he and Pam had fought over it, and it had been a mess. Honestly, if he never saw the guy again, he'd be happy. There had to be ways to avoid someone, right?

"If he wants to keep vital parts of his anatomy, he'll remember that Sam and a gone don't mix," she said wryly. She'd be more than happy to see to it he was reminded. Training with Teyla had start today and she was confident in her skills.

"Pam thinks I was too mean to him," he said with a long sigh, rubbing at his face. "I don't see why I have to give him a chance, but maybe I'll try. Guess it couldn't...hurt. I really need to cut my hair so we don't look so alike, though. God knows what he's doing around here."

"Why? You were here first," Veronica pointed out. She hadn't disliked the guy as much as she resented that there was some gun-waving dude who looked like Jim running around. "Maybe he should cut his hair. You hold 'im down, I'll break out the scissors?"

"I've been thinking about it anyway," he said, hiding his smile. "Sam has this thing with hair, especially mine."

"So I've noticed," Veronica laughed, looking down at the dozing infant. "I can't help it if my naturally flowing locks shine in the sunlight, they aren't for her."
