With the addition to Buffy's hut almost done, Xander had elected for some free time while Buffy went off to train or patrol or whatever she had said she was going to do. Normally Xander would have tried to follow but today he was so tired, he just wanted to convince the bookshelf to give him some decent comics and curl up on the couch

The tension was obvious, but he ignored it. He would probably leave shortly anyway - he reckoned he was being something of a "buzzkill," as they said nowadays.

He rather wished that Michael would stop pretending to be friendly, but that would lead to all sorts of unpleasantness, which he wasn't especially in the mood for. "Well," he said, "I shan't rain on your parade any longer. Have fun doing... whatever you were doing."

Would Billy rather Michael yelled at him like he wanted to? Michael was rather tempted but the presence of the teenager in the room made Michael play nice. "I think we will." Michael said matter a factly, watching Billy intently to make sure he made good on that promise to leave.

Having a shouting match certainly would have gotten everything out in the open - no more uncomfortable attempts at being polite - but Prior, too, was aware of the other boy in the room. He smiled broadly and sauntered away, rolling his eyes as soon as his back was turned.
Bloody drama. At least it made life around here a little more interesting.
